November?
« on: January 23, 2012, 07:55:58 PM »
Just wondering how many other already can't wait for November to get here? Shot my first bull last year and even after 7 hours of packing I have been ready to go back and do it all over again.

I go to sleep every night thinking about elk camp. No, really. Where to scout this summer. Finally hunt that deep and steep I've been dodging. Why were those elk where they were that day? Connecting the dots. Ordered a new wall tent. How will we arrange the tables and cots, etc. Need to set up that work party the first weekend in August we all talked about. Oh boy.
Can't we all just get along?

It was the last day that several of us were going to be able to hunt and we weren't sure what area we really wanted to hunting in. So five of us just took off driving and ended up spotting a bull going in to a timber patch. So three of us decided to start at the bottom and work our way uphill through the timber. While a couple guys would go above the timber and watch. Well after a 2 hour hike through the timber I finally caught a glimes of something moving off to my right. I turn and look and there is was stand 80 yards from me on the timber line headed back out to the clearcut. I count one, two, three he is a legal bull. I pull my gun up and can't see a thing. Oh yea the wet side you need scope covers forgot to take them off. So I click them up and can see now, but he has moved and luckily the only shot I had was right behind his shoulder. I shot and he takes two steps and goes down. So I walk up to him and when I got to him a couple of shots go off. I was like what is going on. Well after I shot my bull and buddy that was sitting above the timber had one wallk out in front of him. So that is why we had a 7 hour pack 2 bulls down in 2 minutes. It was alot of fun and ready for another year.

congrats. I can't wait either. Thinking about where to apply for my permits and what changes will be made in the regs. Where I am going to hang the shoulder mount of my sheep. Nine more months.
