.22-250 OAL question
« on: January 24, 2012, 02:49:33 PM »
Alright all you reloading guru's, I got a question for you.  I'm no expert at reloading, but also not a novice.  I've been reloading for my 7mag for a couple years now.  When I went through the process of determining my OAL and powder charge it all went very smoothly.  Measured my OAL, matched with what my Nosler book said, worked up a few loads and found one that got me 3 holes touching each other.  Fast forward to the present.  I just got a .22-250 barrel for my Encore and all the bells and whistles to reload.  I was trying to determine my OAL last night and I was consistently getting measurements just a hair over 2.5".  My Nosler book lists OAL for the .22-250 should be 2.35.  My question is this, is that just a recommondation and my 2.5" is good or am I doing something wrong here?  Want to make sure all my ducks are in a row, would hate to damage my barrel or worse.  Thanks for the input.

I would load some up near the lands andbsee how they shoot. Published oals are good starting points. Usually rifles are throated longer. You can definitely play with it some. Experiment with length using a conservative powder charge then increase pored charge andnsee what happens.

Be sure to watch for pressure signs while working up powder charge.

that if you used that measurment the round will not fit in the clip
Shootin an Encore, so clip is not a factor.
