Good bow for around $600
« on: January 24, 2012, 05:19:53 PM »
I want to give bow hunting(deer and elk) a try this year. I've shot bows in the past alot but never hunted with them my current bow is an old browning that is about 15 years old. I'd like to try something new. I just started looking my budget is about $600 bucks (bare bow). I shot a 2011 Bear assuault today and I kinda liked it. I'm going to pick up a bow sometime in april. Any bow's you would recommend? I know I should go shoot a bunch and I plan too but a good starting point would be nice. Thanks.

i see they have fully loaded bowtech assassins at sportco in fife for $600. ive shot hoyts, alpines and currently a mathews. ive never shot a bowtech, but it seemed like a fair deal for the beginning bowhunter.

There is a lot of nice bows out there in that price point. I am a big pse fan and they have a few bows around the 600.00 mark and under. Alpine also makes some nice bows for around 600.00

That Assault you shot is not going forward in 2012.  So there are some really good deals on that right now.  I'm lucky enough to shoot anything I want when it comes to bows and for 2010-2011 that has been the Assault.  Hard to beat that bang for the buck especially when it's on a blowout sale!  It's not the fastest, flashiest or lightest, but when a bow shoots better than I can see...that's good enough for me.  I think you should be able to get that thing for under $400 if you do some looking.  You probably can get Wholesale Sports to go for it if you try.

Thanks for the ideas this really helps. I'm really liking the bowtech assassin I'm going to try and find a place that has one that I can shoot and I'll shoot it alongside the assualt. I looked at some martins at the tricities sportsman show but I didn't shoot any of them. As far as I know no one in the tricites carris martin? on a side note anybody belong to the colyak archery club? I think I might join since its abou 5 min away from me.

this is getting to be a good time of year to get a used bow on ebay or something. either someone tried it out for 1 season and didnt like it so they are selling or someoen is upgrading but there are some deals on 1 season old bows out there.

in 07 i picked up an 06 hoyt ultratec for like $450. sucker didnt have any dings, nicks or anything.
