Rule of thumb over the year is to use Magnum with ball powder and Standard primers with with stick powders.  Ball powder burn rates are controled by threir coatings and can be harder to ignite.  Very large capacity Magnums like the 378 Weatherby have been suggested to use Magnum primers due to the large volume of powder.   Very cold weather -0 can cause slow ignition and magnum primers work well then.   Do not substitute a magnum primer without starting low and re-developing you load.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

Load up a few of each and head to the range. Only the gun can tell you what it likes. My 257 wby likes large rifle primers. Groups go to hell with mag primers. Besides it just gives you an reason to shoot some more. That's the way I look at the reloading game.

No need to use Mag primers in a 06 case.  Large rifle primers will give you better ES#'s.

Large rifle is what I use.  Never tried Mag primer in my 25-06.
