i've never understood people who buy a certain brand and rag on all the others.  i mostly use lamiglas, but like other brands as well.  however i do buy most of my rods as blanks and wrap them to my own specs, because the fit and finish on almost anything on the rack leave something to be desired, this goes for all brands!

in the meantime, i'll be cleaning my gun

I prefer Chevy trucks.
Oh...wait, wrong discussion.

I have a Fetha Stix rod, a Lamiglas and a couple Loomis rods. They're all good. So are Ford trucks, Chevy trucks and Dodge trucks.
The guy that owns Fetha Stix, Jim I think his name is, is a stand up guy for sure. Poor customer service will ruin a business....especially at the shows when there's so much exposure to it.

It is all opinions with rod choice...  I do not like Lami because of how I was treated with my replacement rod.  So when someone says their replacement rod warranty is fantastic all I say wait until you come in with a rod they do not make any more.  Than you get bent over with no lube.

Lami replacement warranty sucks.

Won't buy a Fetha Styx (or P-Line or Tica for that matter) because of HawgQuest.  Cant stand the constant pimping.

I don't understand this mentality.  To say that you won't use something because of the way it is advertised on one TV show that has nothing to do with the service provided by or the product produced by those companies.  Personally I didn't know HawgQuest endorsed those products, I can't stand watching the show.

Logically I see your point and you are right.  I have nothing against the companies mentioned but if I buy their products it will remind me of that show.  It's like this argument of which rods are better...  it's personal.

Hawg Quest...  You have to think to yourself why you are watching this program.

1.  Is it showing you a river or location you can fish or hunt?
2.  Is the show going to provide you a recipe for brine, cure, bait, ?
3.  Is the show going to show you a set up that you do not know about?

If the answer is no, than it is only for your own entertainment and nothing else.

Interesting, I broke a steelhead rod this summer that is no longer made, they let me upgrade to the newer better rod and only had to pay the difference in price from the value of the old rod and the new rod, seemed pretty good to me. I understand and agree with you though, once you lose confidence in a company it's hard to believe in any of their products anymore.

I went back the next day and there was one guy there and he seemed like he did not want to be bothered so I left it at that.  I met a lot of great people at the show.  Lee lock anchor guy was cool.  Glenn Berry game calls was great as always.  I bought a Wicked lure form the salesman he was so greatfull you thought I bought a 24' boat from the guy.  Paviati boat guys were cordial.  Had a good time but wish I took in more seminars.  I like my Featha stix rod and wanted to get another steelhead rod just aint going to be a Stix.

I  will agree with your use of the cheapest rod on the market for fishing a bobber.  YOu are feeling the fish you are watching an indicator.

The same can be said for plunking.

But drift fishing you need a sensitive rod or you need your finger on the line with the pole always pointing at the bait so that you can feel the fish through the line.  Most like to use the sensitive rods.

My point is that most people use the most expensive rod out there to say they have it.

Not I..I fished for years(drift fishing) for steelhead with cheapo rods..I got a lamiglass and wow was there a difference in what one can feel.. I now have Loomis, a custom built rod and several other lamiglass rods..0 comparison in what one can feel with a high quality rod. It may be 1 or 2 fish more a day, but thats a big difference on a day when thats all you hooked  :)

You guys keep buying your 200 dollar rods and parading around in your shiny waders and fancy fanny packs.  I'll keep my 60 dollar, 15 year old quantum rod and my 1980's 1310, egg crusted vest with old wood shavings from shrimp cartons in it and we will see who catches more fish  :chuckle:

There are plenty of custom blanks out there that are better than the Loomis, Lamiglass, and FethaSticks. Plenty of other rod blanks out there that can be custom built to perform circles around these guys, but getting consistancy and warranty is usually the issue with the small custom rod guys.

Once again, as in anything it isn't as much the equipment but the person using it.

:yeah: I own several high end rods, but to say a nicer rod will catch more fish is like saying a brand new bow will kill more bulls... :chuckle:

Not only are Fetha Styx quality rods, but their people are super quality too.  They also believe in, and support our causes, donating lots of money to the CCA to protect our recreational fisheries and marine habitat, or through their "True Hero's" program for our Law Enforcement and Firemen!

We should support the people that support our causes.
