different purpose.. the GP100 is a full size, six shot cylinder.. probably 37oz for a 4 inch (mine is a five inch)
the SP101 is a compact, usually snub nosed 5 shot, smaller, lighter, more concealable, usually short barreled...

Thanks Hill

I should say that I will carry for hunting and MAYBE concealed (have permit). I have not read the fine print about capacity. Thanks for bringing that up

I own both, chambered in .38/.357.  The GP100 is a much larger frame than the SP101.  My 101 is a snubby with the 2" barrel, 6" on the GP100.  SP101 holds 5 shots verse the GP100's 6.  .357s out of the SP101 are sporty.  The SP101 is very compact and much lighter than the GP100.  Depends on what you're looking for.  The GP100 definitely handles the recoil better than the 101.
Look man, some times you just gotta roll the dice

I like the GP100 a lot better myself. I have always been a fan of a more full sized handgun. A carry gun is o.k to have a short barrel but most mine I use for more then just cary. There has been a few times that I have used my 357 to finish animals "when and where legal" and I would not have liked trying to do it with a 2" 357. I also tend to shoot a lot of yotes with my carry guns as well so its nice to have the full sized for better range  A little extra wieght does not bug me at all.

Normal Rugers, have owned both, own 101's now. GP100 is about the size a 44 ought to be same with the 101 related to 357 cartridge. Both guns are far larger than they need to be. I like them both and both are fairly accurate, being Rugers both need trigger jobs. I like the 101 better because if I am carrying a gun the size of the GP 100 I want more power. For "very" concealed carry the 101 is too big.

They are both great. I have a SP101 with a 3" barrel in .357 Mag. I would take the Pepsi challenge with the much more expensive S&W's any day.

The GP is an awesome gun too, but like Bofire said, if I was going to lug a revolver that big around, it should be .44 Mag or at least have a 7 shot capacity.

The gp100 is a very accurate gun.  Shot a 250lb hog with it in texas.  Go with the 100.
