Yesterdays catch
« on: January 26, 2012, 07:15:28 PM »
Nothing very noteable but I bought a new camera. Been really slow lately but here's what I caught yesterday.

What are all the bumps on the left otter?
What would life be without the thrill of the hunt?

What are all the bumps on the left otter?

I drum my otter and other greasy furs in corn cob grit to absorb the grease out of the fur. What you are seeing are some of the particles of corn cob grit. It brushes off when it gets dry. It makes the fur around the window fluffy and clean.

Picked up another otter today and a very toothy looking possum. I'm figuring an easy $.75 out of that guy. :IBCOOL:
Sorry, no pics. Camera won't work when you leave it home.

Maybe nothing notable for you but if the boy and I have two otters and a beaver in the morning we're going to flip! :)

I had a friend in Kodiak who jumped ship for political asylum. He lived in a camper and made all his own trapping gear including his traps and snares to save money. (even when he had money) Turns out in Poland, he'd worked on a big fur farm of some sort. The guy was as handy fabricating stuff as I've ever seen. Anyway, he built a large drum and filled it with wood chips to clean up his pelts. He'd pour a small amount of white gas on the chips  and tumble it a bit before adding the furs. He said the gas would remove the last traces of grease from furs. Then he'd comb them all real nice. He had the prettiest furs I've ever seen.
