smelt jiggin
« on: January 27, 2012, 02:12:33 AM »
anybody do any smelt jiggin? i know the snow melt and recent rain has pushed most of the fish away from the mainland, but, ive got the itch to sit on a dock in a folding chair, a cheap radio and a 6 pack, and a fishing rod for a few hours ...

i havent been out to cornet bay but i hear oak harbor is doing well?
catch it. kill it. cook it. eat it.
Forget the bear spray, use wasp killer. Concentrated delivery stream, 10X the product, and only $3.00 on sale.

I smoke two fish in the morning, I smoke two fish at night, I smoke two fish in de afternoon makes me feel alright

Used to go to Coronet bay all the time.
Everett harbor too. Now i live too far away.
Used to keep 4 or 5 dozen for bait, fry the rest. Traded the herring we caught for smelt.
Used to have a derby for the kids. Different amount for how many they caught on 1 feather jig.
Got spendy once they figured it out.
It's not true that I am good for nothing---I can be used as a bad example!!

I will be keeping track of this one. We use to go to La Conner every year.....it hasn't been good the last few years when we have gone up. We run a good size red corky sliding above the sabiki rigs to help keep them vertical if we decided to cast away from the docks and they acted as a strike indicator for the kids. Always a blast when you hit it right. Dipping them on the Cowlitz was great fun as well!

I spent 5 hours last week fishing Cornet Bay. Didn't get a darn thing. There  were three others fishing and they didn't get anything, either.
