cause I am tired of paying the way for them, where do you think all the money for the bike lanes is coming from?

But we still have to pay another fee to go to DNR land. Dont see your point there.

Dont see your point there. The point is, that in order to encourage modes of transportation that do not burn up fossil fuels and pollute our air, they are not going to make it more expensive for people to do so. If you want to charge people for riding a bicycle do you also want to charge people for walking on the sidewalks?

Every OTHER vehicle that uses the public roadways has to be licensed, I don't see why there should be any difference for bicycle riders.Quote from: bobcat on January 27, 2012, 10:19:45 PMI'd guess that most people that ride bicycles also drive a car at times and pay the same fees as everyone else.I mostly drive my truck that I have licensed, so I shouldn't have to license my motorcycle for the few times I drive it right?

I've already stated the reason. They don't burn up fossil fuels and they don't pollute. You don't make it more expensive for people to do something that benefits us all.
I can't believe that there are people actually advocating MORE taxes/fees for the government rather than trying to get rid of the ones we have now. Apparently some people think ridiculous taxes/fees are perfectly fine, as long as it is someone else paying them.

Apparently some people think ridiculous taxes/fees are perfectly fine, as long as it is someone else paying them. It's OK if it's to increase fees and taxes for the other guy. This thread got jacked wicked! It started out about the Discover Pass and became a rant about bicycles and their evildoer riders.Like Bobcat pointed out, most people who ride bikes do have cars and pay for the roads and improvements, like anyone else in the state. I would argue that having bike lanes helps drivers to avoid killing a bicyclist. This keeps down our insurance, emergency vehicle and services use, and saves lives. Are some bicyclists real jerks when they're on their bikes? Sure. Are some motorists? All the time. Road rage, anyone? As far as the Discover Pass is concerned, the state needs more revenue to continue running parks and caring for natural resources. Everything's more expensive. If you want to play, you've got to pay. Harsh reality time, folks. It's the law. Pay $30 now or pay $99 tomorrow. How much you pay is all in the choice you make. If you want to get mad about it, no problem. You're going to be mad a lot.
bikes dont burn fossil fuels but they still use rubber, still need roads and bike lanes. We pay millions of dollars for them to pedal around, without paying a F'n dime. We pay for the roads and bike lanes for them through car tabs and taxes on gas. I think its time they either pay up also or walk cause atleast when they walk they are off the road a car or truck paid for.
We had to have a license for our bikes when I was young. With all the tax revenue being spent on bicycle lanes, I'd be in favor of a bike license as long as the money went toward bike lanes and their enforcement.
A person buys one of those electric cars in order to save on gas and help the environment. Seem's like I read someplace where the government is gonna make those people pay some kinda fee for owning an electric car now!! What's with that?!! A person can't do anything now days without having to pay out the a$$ for it.
Just found out that I am elegable for a free discover pass.Over 65 retired and don't make near $35,000.Damn it I just bought one last week $35.00
I am also for the Discover Pass and the WDFW "Use" fees for people that are otherwise (hunting and fishing license purchasers) not supporting the resources and infrastructure that they are enjoying and using.
This all started when we nixed the absorbent car tabs. Since that time law makers have been thinking of ways of working around this this little speed bump. Don't be surprised when they try and install a GPS on every vehicle to track the mileage and bill you x number of cents per mile. Better yet watch out when they will start making mandatory yearly car inspections where they right down youur vehicle mileage and bill you for both the inspection and the mileage you drive. QuoteI am also for the Discover Pass and the WDFW "Use" fees for people that are otherwise (hunting and fishing license purchasers) not supporting the resources and infrastructure that they are enjoying and using.I think you have a typo there. I agree non sportsman should pay for a WDFW use fee but sportsman should not have to buy a Discover pass. There is a little thing called the Pittman Robertson Act that levies a Federal Excise tax against firearms, ammunition, and sporting goods. This tax goes into a fund that is then later redistributed to the states to pay for wildlife habitat restoration, hunter education, and conservation projects. It's actually we the sportsman promoting conservation and restoring habitat and we are the ones paying to support the infrastructure and resources. On the same token, I don't think its correct to force people to pay for a parking permit on federal forest lands. This land is owned by the citizens of the United States and why should you have to pay for parking on lands owned by US Citizens? It does not make sense.
No typo there Brown, I support fees for people that do not purchase a hunting or fishing license. I've been paying into Pittman - Robertson for about forty years...
