Hi Guys (and gals),

I have lurked around for quite a while here, and this is an awesome site!  I think it is great how everyone gets along, without a lot of the bickering that seem  to haunt some of the other forums.  I have lived in Washington most of my life, and have had the privilege of hunting and fishing here with family and friends.  I have a couple of questions that I was hoping I could get some help on:

1.  I need to find a good gunsmith.  I need to get a firing pin replaced on a Remington 760.  My nephew was trying to fill a doe tag with it this past fall.  He would only get about every third shell to fire.  It would only dent the primer, but not enough to make it fire.

2.  I am in the process of purchasing a new magnum rifle.  What scope mounts/base would you recommend.  I want something that will hold up to the rigors of hunting, and the beating of a magnum recoil.  I have been looking at the Talley rings and bases, as well as Leupold.

Start with a serious cleaning. That may be the whole issue. Where are you located?

I think that 760 trigger comes out like the 870 shotgun trigger, should be held in with two pins? Anyway, I bet a good blast of gun scrubber, like a 1/2 to a whole can would get that trigger going. High Mountan in Wenatchee and Moses Lake has gunsmiths that sould be able to help.

I use Leupold style bases and rings.  I have some Leupold brand, and some Millett brand. I have had great luck with these, I am sure you will too!

Welcome, I shoot a short mag and had the recoil break two sets of scope mounts. I upgraded to leapold STD mounts, affordable and tough. Why any company would name a product STD is nuts.

Hi Boneaddict.  I appreciate everything that you have done for this site, and I am in awe of some of the pictures that you have taken.  I have always deer hunted, and this past year, I had the privelege of seeing my first HUGE mule deer buck.  I was helping some buddies fill some elk tags up a wild river outside of Riggins, and that things still haunts me.  It was without a doubt the most mystical and magical deer that I have witnessed.  It has me so pumped up about hunting....kind of like being a kid again! 

I am located in Moses Lake, but travel all over Washington State.

Located in Moses Lake.  I am going to give it a good cleaning.  I need to get this gun going again...it is my dad's 65th birthday this year...and would like to freshen it up.  I may even have the stock laser engraved for him.  Thanks!

In the old days, that Pittsburg landing area used to have some tremendous animals.   I went over a couple springs ago and found nothing but coyotes.   I couldn't believe how many coyotes.   I bought a license and went to work.  I think I killed 12 of them in one day.    That was some fine shooting.     I haven't been back.   That country will eat a set of knees in a hurry. 

By the looks of the fish they were hauling out of the water....I wish I had brought my flyrod.   That salmon country is VERY COOL.

I like talleys but my new favorite are the DNZ dead nutz.

I am a huge fan of the dnz dead nutz now. I did a bunch of research before I bought mine (I tend to ever do this for just about everything I buy.) Guy who did the install for me said it was a good choice and his favorite as well. Their hardware doesn't fit with some torx drivers though.

mounts/rings dont get much sturdier than WARNE.

Talley and Deadnutz are some interesting designs too.

Warne Maxima permanent attached rings are my favorite. I use them on everything. They dont budge. Use lock tite on the bases.

I had a .338 when  I was in college.  The scope slipped inside of the rings, and it seems like it was never zeroed in.  I finally got rid of the gun, because I had more confidence in my red ryder.    I am getting ready to kick the football again, and do not want to have anything like my previous experience happen.

I have heard of some guy putting a thin coat of finger nail polish on their rings to break the friction?

14 pounds......sarcasm. the warne are good sturdy rings, but heavy. I like the fact that you can't break a talley or dnz, and they weigh about 10% of the warne rings.

Seekins are awesome. I have a set of his serialized rings and base on one of my rigs, but not many want to spend that much on a scope.....let alone rings.

you should look into a scope ring lapping kit for a better hold on the scope. Even rings that say they dont need it end up needing it.

Spray the innerds of the receiver with brake cleaner. Works good.
