New Gun Safe
« on: January 31, 2012, 02:12:39 PM »
I just recently started acquiring guns and feel its time to get a gun safe. However I know nothing about them.

I would like to spend $500 - $1000 on one. Its going to be on a concreate slab so i plan on securing to to floor and wall.

What are some good brands? What ones should I avoid? I dont need anything to large.

That is what i kind of have in mind.

I would love to hear your thought and opinions.

Northwest safe is a good place to check, also costco....as far as size, trust me when i say the one you buy will be too small eventually...
To hunt and butcher an animal is to recognize that meat is not some abstract form of protein that springs into existence tightly wrapped in cellophane and styrofoam.

Costco is a good place as well as big r if your near Spokane. Remember there isn't sales tax on safes in WA. Also remember that each gun is probably worth $1000 and 6-8 of them add quickly to dollar value. IMO a safe is not a place to save money. I did and wish I would have spent more. Buy bigger than you think.you will need because it will fill up...

Just remember that when they say a safe will hold 20 guns, that's 20 open-sighted lever action rifles.  A scoped rifle  takes up the space of two guns with iron sights!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

As I replied to a previous posting regarding safes - Keeping in mind the fire rating, if possible locate the safe near an outside wall.  Fires generally burn hotter & for a longer duration at interior locations.  The potential for water damage shouldn't be a problem if you locate on a slab, but noticed that particular safe heat-seals the door.  Wonder if that waterproofs it.

In your price range, that one from Costco will be hard to beat. Usually you can trick out the inside of the door to hold a lot more guns and accessories.

I really like my Liberty Safe. Its the 23cu. ft. 25 gun model. Picked mine up at Cabela's on black friday for $560 but they normally run alot higher than that. Its got 11 long guns in it right now, and it really doesnt have a lot of room left for more long guns, because I dont like them to touch each other. If I gave up my ammo shelf I could put more in there, but Ive decided its time for more pistols because there is plenty of room for pistols in there  :chuckle:

Get enough safe for the amount of guns you may own or plan on owning.  If it says 25 gun safe and you have guns with scopes, it may only fit 15 guns.  Make sure you check the inner layout of the safe.
Cut em!
It's not the shells!  It's the shooter!
