Lets make it the 20th and leave the wetside like it is.  Elk and mule deer overlapped for years over here.

Doesn't matter how far back you need to go Bob, the FACT is that it has not ALWAYS been the same. You always come on here and speak as an expert, as someone that knows for a fact what you are saying is correct. There are a lot of people on here that don't know what the truth is and for you to state is as fact is irresponsible and misleading.

Posting opinions are everyone's privilege on this site, but it should be posted as opinion, and not gospel if you really don't know what the truth is. :twocents:

Well, that's your opinion. Why you want to get so hung up on a single word (always) is what I don't get. I'm sorry if what I posted wasn't 100% correct. But as far back as I can remember, opening day has been the same on both sides of the state, which would be back into the late 70's, early 80's. I could be wrong but that's the way I remember it. Do you know different? If so, tell me WHEN were the opening days different?

And you know, that's not even really the point anyway. The point is why change it? They've already said they will not be making any major changes to the seasons for this next 3 year package due to budget constraints. And even if they were, why would you want a later season on the eastside? All that's going to do is put more hunters out there when the deer are more vulnerable and the harvest will be higher, on a deer herd that is already well below population objectives.

Really? You want to increase the mule deer harvest when the goal should be to reduce harvest?

:nono:  Let's just make it the 13th this year and rebuild the herds a little....... :stirthepot: :chuckle:

Problem is it will be the 12th the following year and the 11th the year after that. If the herds are in such poor condition, and they're not, then why not just shut down hunting for the next three years and really let them rebuild?

When was the last time the modern seasons opened on the 13th, 12th and 11th for the three year set?

I should have put heavy emphasis on the " :chuckle:" part!

It will be the 13th, and I sure would not be happy if they decided to move opening day back a week to the 20th. I would much rather have 19 days to hunt deer than only 12 days.

We will not get 19 days to hunt, would be nice though. It will open on the 13 and close on the 21. They will need MF to close by that week to allow for the EMF draw elk tags to have week before general elk.

I was talking about for blacktails. It always goes to the 31st.

We've been over this at nauseam Bob, I've no desire to discuss things with a closed minded liberal again.

If you really have to ask me why I want the starting date the 20th rather than the 13th then you really don't understand hunting in this state and its a waist of time trying to explain it.

For the rest of you, in my opinion adding 5 days to the front of the season does nothing for our hunt except give the perception that WDFW are listening and trying to help.

I agree that it would be much better on the 20th however I don't see them doing this.

If the start date needs to be the same for both sides then blacktail should close the same day as mule deer, we don't want guys that are done hunting mule deer to drive to the wetside and increase pressure on the blacktail. Its always easy to sit back and watch the east side guys get their season pushed back and reduced while you sit on the other side being able to hunt through the end of the month. My guess is the west side guys would be pretty upset if their seasons were set to mirror the east side.

Fine. So I take it by your lack of answering my question, that you admit you have no idea when the opening dates were ever different.......

And, of course I know why you'd rather have the season start a week later. You catch the beginning of the rut and a better chance of cold/snow to push the bigger bucks down closer to the roads. Yes, the hunting is better/easier. Which would be great if we had the number of deer that could take that much pressure. But we don't, simple as that.

Well we better have to choose EMF or WMF for deer then. That would solve this. :chuckle:
