Almost time to play at 1K.
« on: January 31, 2012, 05:21:00 PM »
All I'm waiting on is my optics to be delivered from Leupold. My 30" 9 twist Shilen, chambered in 7mm WSM is ready to go. It took a bit to get all the bullets in, I'm going to be testing the following bullets at 1000 yards with H1000, H4831sc and Retumbo.

180gr Berger VLD

190gr Matrix VLD

177gr Cauterucio VLD

189gr Cauterucio  VLD

Oh, I can't forget the thread protector for the F-Class " Sissies" to the left and right. :chuckle: :chuckle:

Very nice hammer, lots o sexy in that rig, but i have to ask, why the bfu bolt knob????

Makes for easier driving in the fast lane. It's also threaded, so I can change it out with any style I wish. I can run my smaller Kampfeld hunter knob if I like.

Mid February when PTG releases their Rem700 long action detachable mag bottom metal, I'll switch it over to the PTG set up and run the AICS Lapua magazines. It will feed the WSM like glass and I can run any VLD on the planet without worry of getting screwed in the powder capacity department due to the VLD's having to be seated deep. I built it on a long action and had it throated for the VLD's. All the room in the world for those sleek, sexy bullets. ;)

That 7mm WSM is a neat round...all long range business right there.
Good looking rifle, especially that  brake.

Biggerhammer, Nice looking rig.
I'd like to hear about the Throating, mag well costraints. Are you going to have to single feed it with the long bullets loaded out where they should be?

It's throated for the VLD,s, I built it on a Remington700 long action. So I have plenty of room for any bullet out there. As soon as PTG releases their long action detachable mag bottom metal mid this month through MidwayUSA. I will pull the BDL floor plate and install the PTG and run the AICS Lapua mags. I did have the smith open my feed rails so I can feed from the mag box right now. Feeds perfect , when I switch the bottom metal out, I may go to either a A3 or A5 stock. I may go with a AICS chassis, I haven't decided yet. Whatever I go with will be a vertical grip style stock.

Still waiting on Leupold, I couldn't take it anymore. So I just mounted up a scope  I had and I'm going to break the barrel in tomorrow with some Sierra 160 BTSP, Hornady 162 BTSP, Nosler 160 Partition. All on top of 64grs of H4831SC, all seated for a .010 " Jump ".

I'll check velocities and accuracy from there and adjust accordingly. :) I fired one round out of it yesterday, so I could use the spent cartridge for my AOL. Recoil was NOTHING, it's a total pus sy cat. A nice change from that 450 Ultra Magnum. ;)

Just about, I want to try a new style cutter that takes all the thinking out of it so I can set it and forget it. I am designing a savage jig right now too. I know, who would spend $50 on a savage.
