I was cleaning my gun and boom!
« on: February 04, 2012, 07:20:46 PM »
So I bought some foaming bore cleaner to try and after the first application it looked like purple ink was coming out. Sweet. I tried again and while foaming my win 94 30-30 it didn't seem to fill the barrel. I gave the can a couple more squeezes and after the second trigger pull of the can... Boom! Foaming bore cleaner everywhere! That stuff burns the crap out of eyelids and eyebrows! Good thing I blinked. I had that stuff everywhere for a 10 foot radius. It cleaned my barrels pretty well though.

Yeah, I figured it would get a lot of looky loos for that title. BTW, the cleaner was Gunslick and it cleaned pretty well. It just leaves a pretty good residue to clean up after if you're anal retentive about that stuff.

:yike:I learned after I had that same thing happen that a person should  use safety glasses or goggles when cleaning anything or using spraycans :twocents:. Glad it was something that went off that didnt kill you.

I've starting wearing glasses much more often after catching a couple of springs and clips in the eye.

By the time you see the foam coming out, it's too late.  Been there, done that.

Yeah, once I realized the burning was only the eyelids I was pretty happy. Gonna have to be more careful. Not the type of thing people envision going wrong while cleaning a gun. Just got really lucky that I blinked when I did. Hopefully others learn this lesson after opening this thread thinking I shot my gun accidentally. I seem to be good at getting lucky learning things the hard way. I'm sure it will kill me some day.

Don't you remember your mother telling you not to play with that you'll go blind?
Seems he was right  :chuckle:

Thankfully your OK.
I can't even look at a can of Liquid Wrench anymore without safety glasses. I took half the little league team camping and spent a part of each day fixing bicycles and flat tires. I didn't have propper chain lube so I used Liquid Wrench and spun the pedals. I tiny drop flew off the chain and landed on my eye. Instant feedback!! I flushed my eye right away but the doctor still had to flush my eye for an hour to get the PH down to normal.

I'm glad your OK but I have to say. I laughed my ass off after I read that, the things that happen when it comes to firearms. I've witnessed some crazy stuff(Military) that back then didn't even hardly get me pulse up. But that was years ago and there is a age where self preservation instincts really go into over drive. I sit and think about some of those things now and it makes me cringe and the hair stands up on my neck and I think it's a wonder I'm still here.
