The boy and girl scouts pay for their years worth of expences with the shed they get out of the Elk Refuse in Wyoming.. The Asian market will pay a pretty penny for antlers.. Some up to $100.00 per pound for big elk  :yike: in really good condition..

Between that and shrooms'  a person could make some good money

Sounds like a good resource for covering lots of ground in a short period of time. I wonder how that would work in Alaska for moose sheds?

Are you sure he was shed hunting? Thats crazy. Shed antlers arent worth that much money. A local buyer I know of offers $8 lb for nice brown antler.

Not positive because i didnt watch that long but why else would  someone get a heli ride to the top of a mountian in deer wintering ground? it was crazy

Hard to see how it could be very cost effective. Helicopters are very expensive to run and even more so to rent. The cheap ones cost about $750 per hour to run, and the rental is at least double that. If I remember right, maintenance hours per hour of flight can be up to six hours. Definitely not the cheapest way to gather bone.

I don't if it could be the case but I know the wdfw does air studies of the elk and deer. Counting numbers and etc. Maybe that is what they could have been up to. I have also heard of them "trying :chuckle:" to count cougars as well. Makes me laugh everytime I have heard about them trying to count something like a cougar from the air :chuckle:

I would be willing to bet it was WDFW darting, sampling, tagging / collaring doe mule deer.  That is one way they do it, and I have witnessed them doing just that north of Wenatchee off of 97A.
