Well its time to buy a new handgun after selling all mine a couple years ago.

I want a new gun, so keep that in mind. My price range is around $500-600
I have owned a bunch of glocks and I'm trying to stay away from them. Just want to try something new.

So give me some options. And maybe list the pros/cons as well.

I just picked up a Springfield 1911 Mil-Spec for $540 used.

Pros:
In your price range new is like $580.
It's not a Glock, about as un-Glock like as you can get.
The mil-spec isn't the base line style GI, it has the flaired ejection port (anti-stove pipe) and three dot sights.
It comes with the cocabola grips (best wood grips).
Forged frame and slide.
If it doesn't say Brazil, then it was made in the USA, heard that Springfield has stopped the production on Brazil guns.
Can be modified later as your budget and taste dictate

Cons:
If your looking for concealed carry this model is a full size 1911, its heavy and quite large.
It is a complicated gun. I can field strip and reassemble a Glock behind my back in under 30 sec. 1911 takes me about a minute maybe longer and thats while I am looking at the gun.
Replace the sights are a pain, due to design.

All my other cons are personal preference. I wish it had the extend style grip safety and night sights for the same price.

Ah yes I should have specified.

I want a compact semi auto. 40 cal or 10mm or 45

It will be concealed on my trips back to the cities....and open carried around my new town. But mainly it will be just be out on hikes, especially for my dad who has been spending 5-8 hours a day exploring the area around town. And the third use will be my archery sidearm

I am locked on getting a compact size and the calibers I listed. Round count in the mag is not an issue. Keeping weight to a minimum is more important.

The only gun I have looked at is the Sig 2022...if I got that number right. Besides that all I kniw is glocks and snub nose revolvers which I'm trying to stay away from.

I'm really diggin my new xd9sc, and I know a lot of people love their .40 version. If you want 10mm, go with the glock.

Yea if I decide on the 10mm ill get another glock. But it just gets old after a while owning so msny models of the same gun.

Have you looked at any of the Kahr pistols? PM 40 and CM 40 would be two to look at and are in your budget.

I would look at a Walther P-99 as well they should be close to your price range, and they fit the hand like a glove.

You can get a new SA .45 XD compact (4") in that price range. I get along very well with mine and we go everywhere together.

I'm just waiting for the CM 40 to hit the shelves and I'll be buying one. Bud's Gun Shop has the PM 9 for under four bills.

I am hooked on the Sig P238. It is not in any of the calibers you mentioned, but it sure is a fine pistol and a joy to carry.

Sig Sauer makes very nice handguns. I had a 226 for years and loved it. It would shoot anything, anytime, anywhere. I shot hundreds of rounds through it dirty trying to induce a malfunction, and couldn't.

I with they made a compact .40 like the 238.

Stay away from EAA Witness. I bought the 10mm and what a piece of crap. Looks good, but won't fire. Stovepipes, jams etc. Sent it back 2 times for warrenty, came back worse. Wanna buy it ? $ 475 firm.

I just got a Smith and Wesson M&P .40 for christmas and love it so far. Ive only put about 400 rounds through it, but havent had a single issue at all. They do make them in a compact version as well. i would recommend looking at those as they are about 500.

The best thing you could probably do is head to a range that allows you to rent guns and just shoot everything they have. its usually only about $15 for unlimited rentals when you buy the bullets from them. Just shoot everythign in the calibers youre considering and figure out what feels best. thats what i did.

no its this guy here. 340 mp. mine has crimson trace grips though. my cousin has i believe a 640, his is chambered in 44 mag. cool gun too.

I agree.
That's why I suggested SW 610.
There has never been a J-frame 44mag...it would be physically impossible to shoot more than one round.
