First trapped bobcat
« on: February 09, 2012, 08:35:53 PM »
About a month ago we took in our 8 yr old nephew Max for 3 weeks to give his mother a chance to recover from some recent illnesses. The home he comes from is an absolute debauchery. I won't go into detail on that but the more I hear the madder I get. Well, we had a chat with his mother and decided he better stay with us the rest of the school year. We had to have her sign over custody to us as we had to pull him out of school because we are homeschoolers. Didn't take my wife long to figure out though he was in second grade they never should of let him pass kindergarten. (he's a bright kid!) He has had a life of t.v. and video games. Oh, and all the brain washing animal movies out there. So we've had an awesome opportunity to make a difference in the boys life. Rather than watch tv all night he has been helping ( :chuckle:) us run our trapline. At first it was pretty hard on him going through brush in the dark but he has grown substantially. I am proud of him for "toughening" up. The other night we were checking traps and had checked two bobcat cages with one left to check. We trapped all last year and all this year without a cat so it wasn't looking good again. I sat in the truck as the boys and their flashlights disappeared up the trail to the cage. I was impressed with their resolve and prayed out loud " Lord God, if you are willing, would there please be a bobcat in the cage tonight for these young men. Would you speak to their hearts in this way for your glory, that you may be praised again". As I returned my eyes to the trail I saw the flashlights flying back down. They were stoked! We walked up, took some pics, dispatched the cat and praised the name of the living God! What an awesome thing He did for all of us that night. We are ALL growing daily with Max at our house. He is a blessing to us.

Fantastic! Nice catch.  But even more important is the difference you are making in a young life. Nothing builds confidence and self worth like a successful harvest. Bless you and your family for stepping in and giving this kid a leg up.

Yes. Could be quite interesting to let it out and either shoot it on the run or off of my son. Think I'll stick to in the cage.[/list]

When else would you want him to shoot it?  I shoot all my animals in traps before taking them out.
