Snickers First Litter of Pups
« on: February 10, 2012, 05:06:22 PM »
Snickers & buddy Had a litter of pups on Thursday February 9, 2012 she was on labor from 12pm until 10pm.

I came home from the boyfriends because dad called me & told me that Snickers might have her puppies today, I came home & she was at first real lazy. But then She started acting weird By being anise Snickers was going out size & trying to poop. She was pushing really hard for a while, I was keeping an eye on her but dad called & told me that I needed to go and buy dinner, This was around 2:30pm. I told grandpa to keep an eye on Snickers because I had to run to the store, I had already earlier cleaned out the tub for her to give birth in I just needed to dry it & bring it into the house. I left & got back a little bit before 3pm.

I got into the house went straight to grabbing a towel & I checked on Snickers, She was panting on grandpa's bed so I knew that I needed to hurry & get her tub ready because she was. I went outside to start drying it off & I heard the dogs bark & a squeal. I ran downstairs to Snickers & their was no puppy, But I heard one Well the dogs were acting weird outside so I went out their. I heard another squeal. I went where the dogs were & I found a female black lab scooting her way through the dirt. I quickly scooped her up cleaned the dirt off her while running her down to snickers. By the time I got to her she was already on pup number 2, that was the male Chocolate Lab He literally Like flew out of her. I for a half hr Was trying to get a hold of someone to help me out because someone had to watch her & make sure she didn't sit on her baby's also if another came out that she took off the sack. I finally got a hold of a friend & he came over with his friend, Then later on dad came home.

Finally I got some help Aaron helped me bring the tub in I got everything ready, we put the two pups on a different blanket then Snickers we ran upstairs & snickers started having another pup come out Dad quickly put her int he tub & she gave birth to number 3. After that it she had a slow birth her last puppy was born at 10 p,, Snickers ended up with 9 puppies. 3 Black Males, 1 Chocolate male, 1 Chocolate female (already spoken for), & 4 black females. They are all just the cutest. :] I am a very happy grandma, The funny part was that I didn't have to have a baby for all my friends to come. My Baby had 9 puppies & all my friends came over to see :]

yeah, this was kind of a surprise to us all  :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike: :yike:

We were not sure she was prego until this last week when the puppies dropped down in her stomach and she was bloated  8)

Got one spoken for (the chocolate female and her name is Tikka) a few others interested but not set in stone yet.

Gonna be interesting having this many dogs around  :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle: :chuckle:

Got them a appointment with the vet for Monday for a check up and have the dewclaws removed.

Congrats- good to see  you pop up Rocky- been too long. Do I get to see you guys tomorrow night at the Rainier Hunting Retriever Club Dinner in Kent?

Not going to be making it this year. The wife and I are going to the Brad Paisley concert tommorow. And Rashell is going to be sitting the pups  ;)

Nice, now the work begins.  You might want to consider making a whelping box for the pups safety.

The large kiddie pools are cheap and make great whelping area. That's what we used for our lab when she had her pups. Easy clean up as well, when the pups get bigger just duct tape a card board liner around it to keep them in. Nice looking pups, love those chocolate ones.

A real whelping box has a "hog rail" a ledge or a pipe installed 3-4 inches up so if the female lays down a pup is not squished up aginst the wall.   The plastic pools work well when the pups get bigger.
