Moose Call and Rut
« on: July 22, 2008, 04:31:35 PM »
Is the rut season in NE Wa. in October??   Question for Boneaddict..  How big a piece of birch bark would it take to make a moose call?  Thanks.

The peak is early October.  It goes on before and after that to some degree...

Thanks Shawn.   Since it is gonna take a life time and a half to get a tag, I may go up and try for some pictures this year.

I have not drawn one ...yet.  I have never seen a moose call...did shoot a moose once tho'..so what would the diameter be at the large end?

It has been a few years since I have been up N. of Spokane to hunt deer( wasn't many moose up there then) and just thought I would go up to look around for future reference.

Looks really nice Bone'
Thanks guys.

Here is a call for moose, take a coffee can and drill a small hole in the center of the bottom and put a flat shoe lace (about 36")through it and tie a knot in it, then get the lace wet, then put the can under your arm and pinch the lace with your other hand and pull through your fingers and to change the tone just put more or less pressure on the lace !!

Don't know how well it works here but in Alaska it works good !!  :dunno:

I was told to use a potato chip can. Made one and sounds good. I have to use a wet rag to pull down on the string to make it work.
