Wynoochee Dam

I found an abandoned road with boot tracks and followed it down to the water.  It looks like folks have fished down there and I was way below the legal distance by the regs.  I fished that spot then hiked down from the other side of the river.  I pulled one out on unscented rubber egg clusters.  Do many folks fish that?  I only saw one person all day.  Now I am not complaining but I am just wondering if there is something I need to be aware of.

I have never been there but a friend used to work at the dam from time to time and he said they would catch them there somewhere.And lots of them...Been 12 yrs or so

I called a guy that makes pink rubber worms.  I asked if he could make we some without any scent on them.  There are pools down below that have fish in them.  I also have to learn how to fish with a spoon.  The spoon kept swirling round and round rather then from side to side.  BTW,  fish do not like the spoon when it is going round and round. 

But since I was pretty sure I was legal from the regs I banked a little hatchery steelhead and left.  I also left the Region 6 this question as well.  I asked if for some reason the dam decides to spill water do they have horns that go off to warn people.  I know La Grande and Alder Dam's have horns they are spilling.

I am no spoon goon but I have caught a few fish on them. My guess is either your spoon was too light or the water was too heavy. Try a heavier spoon or a spoon that is not as wide as it will take more current to spin the spoon. Another option is when your spoon is swinging and you can feel it spinning, open you bail and start letting some line out this will stop your spoon from spinning and give it the wobble you want. Another tip is to Let it bounce off the bottom like your drift fishing. Spoon fishing is a rich mans sport.

No jigs...   I had a bag of non scented red egg clusters.   So I drifted them.  I also have some unscented worms (Black with Red tails) form Steve Kramer.  Last, I had one bag of Kramers crazy legs these sold out quickly.  I got the fish on the non scented red egg clusters.   

Steve is in Olympia I have http://www.kramertackleandguide.com/pink_worms a package of all of these but I picked up 5 packages of the crazy legs.  They are out standing with a corky.   I also glued a thin slice of white rod backer to the plastic crazy legs but I think it floated too much.  So I just keep it the way it is.

Unscented pink worms work, corky and yarn would work, jigs would work.  Lots of options.  The fish up that high are going to be in better shape after a high water event.

Yesterday after lots of calling around I found some shrimp pink, baby pink, and steelhead orange Glow Bugs Bling yarn.  The bling yarn has tinsel mixed in with the yarn and I think it would do very well in that green Wynoochee water.

Yarn balls have been working well for me on the Nooch the last few times I went.

What colors?

Pink and white; pink, white, and chartruese; peach and pink; orange and pink; any combo of those.  I'm not convinced it matters among those colors.  Just get it in front of a biter.  I also use scent, but I'm not convinced that matters either.

If you guys cant find the bling glow bug yarn almost every craft store has the bags of crystal flash you can put some of that in with the yarn and it will have the same effect. It also works pretty good on jigs! Or get some of the tinsel form there and mix it in with the yarn balls.
