Late Season report
« on: November 09, 2008, 11:58:59 PM »
Got to newport on thursday. Got permission to our spot...

Weather was $hitty... Almost non stop rain. Wasn't cold enough ect....

The fog was horrible.

Deer total: 7 or 8   and one possible buck but it is so thick that its hard to catch a good glimpse...

Went to the bars in newport and had a blast there haha...

Interseting story:

About 5 miles out of town near Indian Creek road we were wheelin' the yote and and I saw some interesting tracks outside my window. I had my friend stop. It looked like wolf tracks to me. We were on a remote road and it had just snowed a little bit that night so whatever it was, it passed over it that night or morning. The tracks were about 4 inches wide, nearly as big as my palm. We took some good photos of them next to a monster can. Its definately not a coyote or a cougar. There were no human tracks around it and there wouldn't be a stray dog up in the middle of the hills. I'll post pics on here for u guys to argue over once my friend sends them...

The rut isn't goin worth beans where we were... Better luck next weekend.

I thought the bars in Newport were closed up  by now with the no smoking laws and Oldtown, Idaho just across the street.
Did you talk to anyone at the sportsman store there in Newport?

We saw a wolf in the area of Indian Creek so they are in there.

Some locals have a huge shack built into the trees up around that area.  They've got several feeders on timers to attract the deer.  Last year we could hear several shots each day.

I'm heading out tomorrow.  It looks like the weather will be perfect until Sunday.

I think I may take my wife out around the Newport area Saturday moring for a few hours. Hopefully they will have started chasing by then. Kelley Hill is really good, but a little to far away for a morning hunt coming from Spokane.
If you shoot the first one you will never get that true trophy.
