209 Primers
« on: February 13, 2012, 11:13:37 AM »
Anyone have a chart listing how "hot" different 209 primers are? Looking for a list comparing Winchester, Remington, Fiocchi, CCI, Federal, ETC..... I got a good deal on some CCI's over the weekend and was wondering where they landed in a comparison. From what information I found, my load with Clay Dot is fine with CCI. I have been using Fiocchi the last few years, and Rem before that. I shot the CCI's and found no pressure issues.

Where did you find Fiocchis in WA, I'm looking for them or Rio primers.  You might want to give Ballistic Products a call for the info on prime  brisance.
After the first shot the rest are just noise.

The last batch of Fiocchis I bought was from Rockys House of Guns in Wenatchee. They have since went out of business. You may try the Spokane Gun Club, sometimes they have Fiocchi.

You can get both fiocchis and rio's from Connies www.conniescomponents.com
As far as a chart goes you may give the guys at three forks reloading in cle elum a call, they can prob dis something up for you.

Unofficially, sounds like Federal is the hottest, followed by Fiocchi, WIN, & CCI being very similar, and REM being just behind.

I think I have seen Connies at the bigget ATA shoots, and I have seen the web page. Prices are pretty good, especially if you buy at the shoots!

I am currently using cheddite primers for my steel shot, and have a 1000 federal primers to use as soon as they dry up.  I have shot both with no complaints.

I hear that fiochi are wider and will make the hull usuless for other primers once used, but I have not tested that theory myself.

That is exaclty right.  I learned that the hard way when I loaded a bunch of hulls from a friend who used Fiocchi primers.  My Winchester primers fell out of the shell in my vest pocket when I was at a registered shoot in Moses Lake. :bash: :chuckle:

There is nothing wrong with Fiocchi primers.  Just know that winchesters are smaller diameter.  I havent taken a mic to the other brands to figure out their diameter.  I guess I am not that bored.
