Pup/shed question

I have a elk shed that I was considering putting in the kennel with the pups when they are a little older.

Is that good or bad idea 

Would it affect the pups reaction or training to being shed dogs if they have one as a chew toy that young

I wouldn't do it. it seems deer antlers are becoming more popular as dog chew toys. to me a chunk of antler has blockage / choking hazard written all over it. blockages are not cheap fixes at the vet.  IMO its a bad idea to leave a dog unsupervised with something like that.

Were not talking about a small shed, Im talking about a 3 point elk antler.

My other dogs have used deer sheds as chew toys sence they were pups and it is a site to see our Chi. take the antler and keep it from the labs

I had a dog get blocked from a very small clump of grass once. cost me $700 and most of the hunting season with that dog. consequently I am over paranoid and don't let them chew on anything while Im away.

my concern on big antlers is they could break a hunk off and swallow it or choke on it or bust a tooth.

After training 2 dogs to find sheds, I personally would not do it.  The only time they got to play with sheds were during training, making them a speacial "treat" for the dogs.  They would get a dog treat everytime they brought the treat back, this way when they come across a naturally shed antler laying in the woods, they know that it is more than just a chew toy that was left behind, but that if they bring it back, they will get a piece of treat.
