Wild ID #?

Ok I tried to pick up this question in another thread but not answered.  Sorry but this is almost a 911 emergency.  My hunting friend has some private land with permission only and ZERO public access.  I hunted with my friend at his spot with permission one day last year and nothing was harvested, not even a shot fired between the both of us that day.  So last weekend my buddy asks for my wild id # so he can give it to the land owner.  I asked him what for and his response was so the land owner can give it to the state of WA.  I just said I didn't get any game there end of conversation! 

Now why in the world would the land owner want my wild id # 2 months later?!?!?!?!?!?  My friend is not being very understanding even though with problems of id theft a person just should not fling their wild id # around to any person who asks.  Last thing want is a bunch of illegal tags being bought under my wild id #, or a bunch of dead game full of meth being smuggled with my # on it!!!!!

This is only speculation.  But I hunt some property that is contracted with WDFW to provide access.  I had to fill out a contract including wild id# in order for him to report to WDFW.  This was a couple of years ago.

Unless my friend miss understood his land owner friends question, I will not hunt there again and I am happy I didn't harvest anything that day.  My friend knows the land owner and hunted after I was there as well plus no one even asked for my wild id # before I hunted there as well.

Maybe the state pays him or he gets a tax break for giving you access to his property and needs your hunting license number to verify to them you were there.

Your number is used for verification that the land owners is allowing X number of people tonhunt the land. Over in Anotin we hunt a propertynthat is required to allow 40+ people and they collect your wild id #.
Give it up so the land owner doesn't think your friend hunts with d'bags and doesn't get invited back.  He should've collected it before allowing access.

It is not that type of property or deal he has with the state.  There are no signs hunt with written permission, register, or feel free to hunt public access opportunity.  I would have no problem telling the state what they need to know but was not given that chance or told any reason.  Just put yourself in that conversation that someone wants your #'s with no explanation other that just give it up.  Right now the only thing I am learning is my wild id # is no big deal?  To me that's my id like my social security #.  That wild id is used to report game, buy tags, draws, and tag game for example.  My # comes back to me and only me.  If that makes me a d'bag, then good. I will even yell on here "I AM A D'BAG!!"

Tell you the truth he probably didn't ask questions to his land owner friend why he wants my #'s.

Giving someone your WILD ID is not akin to giving out your SSN.  I'd probably ask them what they need it for, and if it sounds legitimate I would give it to them if I wanted to hunt there.

Maybe look at it this way. You were given the chance to hunt on private land. You did/didn't bag game and do/don't plan on going back. Either way you have an obilgation to hold up your end. By holding back you may be damaging your buddys rep with the owner and/or making the owner look bad with the state.

Either way, like Bob said, it is only your wild id, not SSN, give it up and move on.
