Is this likely a bear track?
« on: February 14, 2012, 10:40:13 PM »
I was traipsing through a habitat management unit along the Snake River this afternoon and I spotted this large track in soft mud.  Not real fresh, but fully 3.5" long, front to back. I can only see this as a bear track, but having no experience, I thought I'd best ask.  (I usually hang out on the coyote forum.)

Thanks.

No I don't think it is a bear track. Looks to me to be a very large dog track. The pad is shaped like a k9's not a bears.

That is a K-9 track.  Not a Bear Track.  100% positive on that.

Count the toes. Anything other than 5 is not a bear.

Can anybody recall any other 4 legged critter with 5 toes?

Looks to be a decent size wolf.

If you were close to residence, I might say a Great Dane or some other dog of that size.

A bear is a lot longer and wider.
