I have a Springer and was wondering about tips to keep from having issues with burrs and seeds. I know that. Not everybody shaves them down for hunting season is that the best thing to do?

Burs come out really easy with some vaseline. Keep a jar handy. Just put a glob on the bur and you can work it right out. Towel off. Doesn't hurt to trim them up?

I shave my setter down to 1/2 inch.  He's easier to clean, stays cooler during october hunts.  Fleas have nowhere to hide.  No hair on clothes.  Works great I keep his hair on tail long for a visible flag while on point

had springers before setters I shaved the springers with a # 10 blade at the end of june for comfort purposes in summer which yeilded great satisifaction at hunting season.Same with the setters,I omitted shaving the entireflag on the tail for a scissors cut to shorten

If they let you, shave them down. My springer won't let us trim him so it just means a good combing after every hunt. I take scissors to him and trim him down during the season too.

it used to be wrestling match to shave my dogs until I stepped up and got a quality set of clippers. they are so quiet and sharp the dog is half naked before it even realizes its being groomed.

I think "shave" might not be the correct term to use here. You don't want the hair THAT short.     Unless you want your dog to get sunburned!

It's easy if you get some really good electric clippers. I used to mainly do the underside, the legs, and the ears, on my golden retriever.

Scissors will work too, and always bring a pair of scissors on your hunts, so you can cut out tangled, matted hair, and burrs.
