Hunter Orange

You can buy hunter orange vests for $10 or less at almost every sporting goods store in the fall.  Buy one, wear it and you're legal regardless of what is underneath.

 Not true... You must have 400" of visible "hunter orange".... Not that I care... It's in the regs....

yes 400 square inches. Typicaly a vest and hat. I have never heard of a agent getting out a tape measure. But look at small kids, there is no way that their vest is 400 square inches.
If you have vest on most game agents will not bother you. I have been checked many times with a black hat and an orange vest. Never anything said.

And in this state cammo orange is legal.

400 sq inches is only 20"x20"...think about how little you could make with that much fabric...

Exactly. If you have a orange vest, you don't also need a hat. Just the vest will do. You could almost get by with just an orange hat, if it were a sombrero.

I heard an unsubstantiated story of someone that did create a legal orange hat.  Of course, it would take a mighty big head to have that much orange, so it makes the story suspect.

Baseball caps or knit caps only contain about 100square inches of surface area.
For a size 7.5 hat + / -

Apparently in PA they have 2 different restrictions for Blaze orange. A hat is sufficient for hunting ground hogs but 250 square is required for deer.

So in this state you only need 2 15x10in plates on your body with a ball cap.

Unless you tie two orange baby bibs together and wear one in front and one in back like a vest then just about any orage vest is going to give you 400 sq. inches.  Not all, but most.
