Cougar
« on: February 17, 2012, 02:20:13 PM »
This is a first for me. I've had this Wildview cam out since the beginning of December, with a deer rib cage as bait to start with, then later added part of an elk carcass, and then a half dozen duck carcasses. I hadn't been getting much action since the bobcat pictures I got on December 24th. Lately my other camera out there that's 1/4 mile away has been getting bobcat pictures every day. So I almost pulled this camera when I checked it last week but decided to leave it up a little longer, since it wasn't costing anything in batteries anyway, since I have it connected to an external battery. Sure glad I did! The pictures aren't great but there's no doubt what it is. If there had been any bait left (besides bones) it may have stayed around a little longer, but as it was I only got the two pictures.

A coyote did come by a couple days later, in the middle of the day. I think this is only the second time I've got a coyote at this spot, in 2 1/2 months.

Yes, about three different times now. I was just out there last Sunday evening, did a one hour session. Probably will try once sometime this weekend, if it doesn't rain the entire time. I'm really considering getting a good light and trying it at night.

yeah try that but make sure you have a red lenz over your light or they take off quick .... nice to have a pop up blind where you could sit quietly and listen for them when they show up and then hit them with the light .... :twocents:  you may know this but I am just saying

No, I hadn't thought of using a blind, but I have one and may try that. I also just built a couple of ground blinds out there out of natural materials, mostly tree limbs that came down during the ice storm a few weeks ago.

I don't even have a spotlight anymore so I'd have to buy one. I was looking on www.predatormasters.com last night to get some ideas on a light to get, and it looks like the good ones with the red lens are about $200.   :o

Yeah, I may have to wait until next winter to kill a cat out there at night. Don't really have the money right now to invest in lights for night hunting.
