I bought a Mr. Beer right before x-mass.  Did a Mr. Beer American blonde for my first batch.  A Hefeweizen for my second batch.  And now I have a red malt beer brewing.  So far they have been great.  I'm addicted to brewing now.

Heard a guy tell of making homebrew today.  One thing he said he learned was not to make it in the kitchen--the house will smell like stale beer for MONTHS!
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

I have a beer making kit but have never found the time to try it out.  One of these days.
I do have a different recipe.  Water, yeast, ground corn, wheat bran, rye and sugar.   ;)

You don't smell beer until its fermented for awhile.  When your making wort it smells sweet.

I've heard a lot of good about this place.  But I want to make mine at home.  That's what makes it so much fun.  It would be fun to go there once, I bet a guy could learn a lot.

Question for you guys.  I have no problem drinking PBR, coors light, Keystone (well, maybe I have a problem with Keystone) as well as nicer, micro brew beer.  I notice the difference but, sometimes I don't care.  What I care about is the price.  I buy better when I can.  How does the price of home brewing match up to say a $6.50/6pack of Coors Light?

I think if you brew in a 5 gal carboy and buy in bulk youd beat that, my cheapo mr beer for a premium beer kit (dark porter beer) was $18 I think for the mixings, and itll make a case of bottled beer.

I have a hard cider in bottles now, and a porter in the keg fermenting.

My little brother has a complete stainless steel setup for cooking, and fermenting his beer.  He puts his stuff in those pop kegs and puts Co2 behind it.  Pretty good stuff for some reason he has lots of friends over.   :dunno:

You can also pick up and dry your own hops from Yakama.  You do not need much and that stuff stinks.  My brother gets like a gallon bag and it last a long, long time.

I have a full grain set up and brew and keg.. Full grain makes a world of difference... then get some kegs and you are good to go.  It is pretty fun but a full day event.  Always tastes good .. I like the IPA's.

I love IPA's too.. Where do you live? :chuckle: Home brewing is something I have been wanting to try for a long time. I seriously think I am going to try it soon. My brother in law does it and brews some pretty good stuff.

They just opened up a place here in Chehalis yesterday.  Its called flood valley homebrew.  Here is what the owner wrote in the local paper. Hopefully this can save some people some money in gas and not have to drive as far to get supplies  "We will be your one stop shopping place for all of your home brewed beer needs! We will carry over 30 varieties of grains and 26 varieties of hops, and yeasts for any style of beer you want to brew! We will also sell all equipment needed for brewing, bottling or kegging your homebrew. If you don’t currently brew your own, come see us and we can show you how easy and fun it is to make better beer for less than half the price of “corporate beers”.
