I think if you brew in a 5 gal carboy and buy in bulk youd beat that, my cheapo mr beer for a premium beer kit (dark porter beer) was $18 I think for the mixings, and itll make a case of bottled beer.

I have a hard cider in bottles now, and a porter in the keg fermenting.

My little brother has a complete stainless steel setup for cooking, and fermenting his beer.  He puts his stuff in those pop kegs and puts Co2 behind it.  Pretty good stuff for some reason he has lots of friends over.   

You can also pick up and dry your own hops from Yakama.  You do not need much and that stuff stinks.  My brother gets like a gallon bag and it last a long, long time.

I have a full grain set up and brew and keg.. Full grain makes a world of difference... then get some kegs and you are good to go.  It is pretty fun but a full day event.  Always tastes good .. I like the IPA's.

I love IPA's too.. Where do you live? Home brewing is something I have been wanting to try for a long time. I seriously think I am going to try it soon. My brother in law does it and brews some pretty good stuff.

I can brew a five gal batch of beer for $35  from Home brew heaven, partiall grain of course. I have yet to have a kit from there I have not liked.
