Scope for a 338 RUM?
« on: February 20, 2012, 05:28:34 PM »
Well I thought the scope I had would hold up to the recoil generated by this rifle, but its not.  Its a Cabelas Alaskan Guide Premium 3x9.  it worked great on the 300 mag, but not so much now.  I took it to the range today and I started seeing double through the scope, and it was very blurry.  I think im gonna be in the market for a new scope.

I am wondering what scopes you guys with the large magnum rifles (338 caliber or bigger) are throwing on your rifles that will hold up to the abuse?  Im gonna set my price range up to $500, but if I gotta spend more I will.  I just want something that has a good eye relief and is clear.  Thanks

I put a $200 burris on mine and  it held up  till i bought another scope-a zeis z800 love that you can get good deals at cameraland-you can point and shoot with this scope out to 800yds without playing with dials.

I have been using a Leupold Vari-X III 3-9x50 with the duplex reticle.  It holds up fine with 250gr bullets with 106 grs H-1000.

I have a Burris Fullfield on my 338 Win Mag, and it definately doesn't like the recoil, it's been repaired twice.  In the next few weeks it's coming off and my Nikon Monarch is going on there.

A wee bit out of the price range, :chuckle: but if you're willing to get the best out there then yes! KF all the way.

I now, but you know how everybody on here always changes everything. How about an Osprey scope ? I've shot steel with the $125 scope on a 308 and it worked perfectly.

Definatley not light weight.  It's standard 700 bdl with a wood stock.

I have broke a bunch of scopes over the years. Two sub $500 scopes that I have had luck with are the zeiss conquest and the 4200. I used to really be a leupold guy, but I think the quality has fallen off in the last years. I personally believe if bushnell had left the bausch&lomb label on the elites, the 4200 would be the hottest selling 3-9x40 today.
