I tell everyone that you would have to be a blind man not to find turkeys on public and/or private land in the Colville & Kettle Falls area - but I think I have to amend that since I think even a blind man can find birds there - both public and private lands holds a lot of birds.

I like the idea about going during the youth season ... majority of land owners are more receptive to private hunts for a kid than us older guys.  Go a day early for the hunt, get up and get out by first light and drive around ... you will see birds. Note where you saw them and come back at a more decent hour to see the landowner. Stopping and asking doesn't cost anything.

The local DNR office has maps that will also show you were public land is  ... my first Colville Merriams came from various public land located North - South - East - and West.

Turkeydancer,
   Thank you!
Lord , we've been here on days before
and often times you've let me score
Now do you think that on this day
you could send a gobbler down my way?
And , if not , just let me say--
you've given me another day
to hunt the bird I love the best.
I don't mind sharing with the rest

Alright....took most of my messing with you stuff down. I have hunted that corner for deer many a time and always saw birds. I would think you could get into them with out TOO much work. I always found them in little patches in between draws. Seemed like I'd be scouting and hunting and come out of one draw into a little clearing, flat spot. Also...keep in mind that you can come across quiet a few natural springs...always a good spot. Surf google earth and look for little green spots on gently sloping hills....good luck out there.

There is a ton of public land over there and almost all of it has turkey on it. Get away from the roads and you are going to find birds. I've seen guys jump out of the truck call once then drive off. I walk in 200 yards sit for a few minutes and call in a nice bird.

Awesome thank you!!

Check you PM. That general area should give you a great chance for a bird.
Not sure what that means but did receive your email....Thanks again!!

North east corner is obviously no secrete ... It is the hart of turkey hunting in Washington.. Now how you go about it is what makes or breaks you ... you can drive around and see birds just about anywhere ... but if you want to be a successful turkey hunter you need to get good at locating birds .... Rather it be driving around and finding them or locating them late in evenings using a locator call ....I love to drive around after shooting hours have ended and blow a locator call that is just as much fun as calling one in.... and you want a few different locator calls because you can blow one and not get a response then grab another and they gobble like crazy .... AND DO NOT THINK YOU CAN NOT MAKE ONE GOBBLE AFTER 9 PM OR EVEN 10 PM because I have many times .....once you find them then get in on them about 1 hour before light and set up .... I like to get about 100 yrds away .... Yes they will always gobble at every sound you make and then they laugh at ya and fly the other way  :chuckle: As you become more experienced you will know where and where not to set up .... just get out and do it ....nothen like it  :twocents:

Joe,
I am looking on coming the 1st weekend of the season.   And that whole week..

I am heading over on the 11th, if you are still over there. Let me know and I can show you some areas. There are two real nice places I found last year that would be a good area for a youth.
