I want an AR .223 for coyotes  I don't know squat about them. Whats best gas operation or recoil? Brands? Cost? Please educate me.

Boo-ya shoot em up. Lots of good threads lately about this. To many options to even list. Buy one, build one, either way lots of fun. Invest in lots of ammo. Me....bushmaster stock AR....shoots great....further than my ability.

Buying/building is the first thing.

If you buy a rifle you will be paying probably 200-500 more then if you build it yourself and find some good deals.

Even if you do a simple build and just build the lower and then buy a complete upper you will be getting a better custom gun that you will like more. Plus it will save you some money.

Main brands are RRA-DPMS-BUSHMASTER. These are what you will see a lot of guy's running or building on. I am a big fan of spikes tactical and have been building a lot of stuff with there lowers and parts. Very good company!

The gas operation is what the rifle uses to fire the gun. There is direct gas and there is also the gas piston models. I like the simple direct gas models. The piston's are spendy and have a few more parts to go wrong. They do run a bit cleaner then the direct gas system.

You can build a good ar-15 for about 650.00 a very high end one for about 900-1000 and then if you want to get crazy skys the limit with the ar-15's.

Tons of information on Ar's, too much to go into detail here.
I'll give a few bullet points to get you headed in the right direction.
Get one that is a 'flat top', meaning one with out an attached carry handle.
Triggers and barrels get a lot of the $ invested in a good build. 18"-20" barrel with 8 twist medium contour,SS with threaded muzzle.
Direct impingement over gas piston, unless you are going to run a suppressor full time. Free float hand guard with a way to attach a bi-pod. Unless you want the Rambo look, no real need for a sh!t load of rail/ attachment points.
 Rock River makes a great 2-stage match trigger that will serve very well for about $125.00. Or a Jewell for about $225.00
Seekins has some of, if not the best ,AR parts out there.

Most upper and lower receivers from reputable manufactures will work great for a build.

I just built my first one ever not long ago (6.5 Grendel though), it was so easy, do some research on the net, tons of info out there.

I got the Smith M&P, put a 1-4 Leuppy on it and it's a coyote smokin machine.  Very accurate, smooth and can shoot it all day long.

Seattleguns.net AFTER watching the forum for a couple weeks so you learn values.  I love Rock River Arms and I know I will catch hell for this but don't like Bushmaster, DPMS/Panther, Olympic Arms.  If you are going to be shooting 400+ yards spend money on a quality build.  Don't go crazy with lights, lasers, propellers and snorkels.
Good luck and allocate a lot of money to ammo as it is addictive!
