leopould mark AR vice VX1..
« on: February 22, 2012, 04:50:35 PM »
Ok so I was planning on getting a VX1 leopold, (3-9x40) as the other leopolds are out of my price range, but I have stumbled on a deal on a Mark AR leopold, for within 20$ or so of what I expected to pay for a VX1.. the Mark AR has the same lenses as the Mark 4's, and has a BDC. (admittedly it has a .223 bdc drum, but that is easily remedied.. (it's for a .308) So what do you all think? anyone have any experience with the Mark AR's?

I bought one and haven't put it on and not sure i'm going to.  Got a good deal on it so I bought it.  looks like a really nice scope.  I may be willing to trade another scope for it if your interested in saving some cash.

I also bought one a month ago. Haven't mounted it yet as I'm waiting for back ordered rings.  I like what I see, but I'm putting it on an AR. It would work on your .30 but you will loose the BDC. Hands down a lot better scope then a VX1.
Will hunt for food.

I can't speak for the Mk AR but a VX-1 is a waste of money.
I can point you toward a handful of much better scopes than a VX-1 at that price point.

I have two Mark AR scopes. One on an AR15 in .223, and the other on a Winchester 70 in 22-250. The glass is good, and the scopes work great. I had some Kenton industries turrets made for each one to match up with my reloads.

What power was the one you were looking at?

Bushnell Elite 4200 at Cabelas for $199 (sometimes less!) will put a VX-II to shame....it's not even close.
Nikon Team Primos ($199, may be sold out) is a re-badged Monarch..again, it's in the VX-II league or better.
Pentax Lightseeker are re-badged Burris Signatures...made in USA, better glass and construction than VX-II.
Hope that helps.

I have two of the fullfield II's, not quite as nice of glass as the MARK AR, smaller field of view. Reticle system is nice in them though. I use them on my .17 hmr and .22 rifles.

I have two Burris FFII's and love them.
Great glass, good construction.
I compared them to Leupold in the shop with one of those stocks that has a rubber mount to put two scopes one on top of the other for direct comparison....Burris won easily.
If you want a FFII with the BDC reticle, let me know...I have too many scopes.
RSVP via PM.
