Thinking about looking for some horn this year..
« on: February 25, 2012, 08:40:44 AM »
My area is still covered in snow and I haven't exactly been able to get away from work. I was just looking for some opinions on where I should start.. I'm new to the shed hunting thing. The deer in my area don't leave during the winter or summer, they stay year round, I've found sheds before (When not looking) but never in a concentrated area.. Was just wondering where would a good place to start looking be?? Just beat feet or start in open meadows? Dark timber, etc. etc. Thanks for all your advice guys and gals... Happy Shed Hunting!!

Where the deer are now there will be sheds.  Find the deer, find the sheds.  Most deer are dropped right now, or going to, depending on your area.  They probably are not hanging to far from where they left their hardware at this moment.  Personally I'd wait tell a melt to find them, id find where the deer are hanging right now and come back later, chances are its snowed since they all dropped anyways.  This is just advice compared to the area I'm shed hunter, your area could be different.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.
