barska spotting scopes
« on: February 25, 2012, 02:38:17 PM »
i am looking for a spotting scope that is basically going to live in my pack. i want at least a 20-60x60 but dont want to break the bank on something that may get damaged. looking at about $200 max. i have found multiple barska spotting scopes for under $150, they look nice and sound like they are decent glass. has anyone had any experience with this brand?

Have el cheepo Barska 60x from big5 store ,paid like $60 .It is very cheap ,but it will do little better than binos. By the time you crank it ,the view is too distorted IMO . Also looked though Nikons,Zeiss and more ,the only spotter that was any good was Swarowski -for $$$$$$$$$$  :chuckle: I think if your vision is better than mine you can actually see something even through the cheap Barska .Mine sleeps in my backpack and hardly comes out ,it is scratched and stuff and  I use it mostly at the gun range .I think you will waste your money with that ,but that is my  :twocents:
Everyone thinks that I'm freak ,I don't look different do I ?

I don't think you can get a useable spotting scope for $200. You really ought to consider just waiting a little longer and saving up a little more money. With $400 you are starting to get into something that will work for hunting.

This is about the best I could find:   http://www.cameralandny.com/optics/nikon.pl?page=nikon6890   (the demo unit for $300)

Good call! I waited a year plus for the.combination of saving up and waiting for a kick butt deal for my spotter. Waited almost two to get a range finder.

Buy once, cry once.  :twocents:
