This guy gave up tracking him after 1/2 a mile (which was probably closer to 500 yards) he KNEW he hit him in the shoulder and decided to give up when there was clearly evidence of blood in the snow???

Good grief.

I can see losing the sign after a snowfall as mentioned in the first video.   But that second video is just a flat out embarrassment.

Kudos to Brian for sticking with it, but Bud's name might as well be Mud in my book.

After watching both videos, I'm thoroughly unimpressed.
First video: Shoot and wound a big buck, then give up on a blood trail??? Then go hunt for another buck???

On another note: These guys need to switch ammo to something more modern that will actually work.

how much this happens i dont wanna know .i dont think he  taking his time for a good rest  his caliber maybe not enough maybe he is shooting to far also is he useing store bought ammo? we use handloads which when done correctley give you a better all around shell that knocks the stuff'n out of them but you still have to aim . he maybe shooting too far and the animal is probley moving.

Except he seemed to have made a decent hit. I'm more inclined to think he was using balistic tips or some other bullet that opened up too much and didn't penetrate.

Ballistic tips tend to do two things. They either hit bone and blow up thus not getting good penetration, ot they leave a humongous exit hole and damage way more meat than I care for.

I borrowed a gun from a friend out commercial fishing near Kodiak and he used ballistic tips. I went for a little deer hunt on Afognak while we were anchored up one afternoon.  Shot a little spike at about 25 yards and I was appalled at the damage that bullet did to my deer. I could have stuck my foot in the exit hole. and the bloodshot ruined that whole shoulder and the ribcage an that side of the deer. Never hunted with them again. But I have two friends who use them and I see similar damage on animals they take. They also seem to wound animals that require extensive tracking to recover or even lose hit animals, all at a higher rate than what seems normal to me.
