The Super RedHawk is a really nice gun the suggested retail is just over $1000.  I just don't like the price of ammo.  You can really feel the power when you touch one off.
There's a reason they call it hunting, not killing.

I have shot a lot of the super red hawks and the black hawks. I went with the 454 raging bull. I have shot more then a few animals with the 454 casull and I have always been happy with the cartridge  The ruger's are o.k but the grips just don't fit my hands right. So even on the 44 mags I have shot they transfer a lot more recoil.

My buddy has a 460 s&w, he says it will shoot the 454, as well as the 45 LC I believe. Pretty neat gun but it's huge, he caries it as a side arm but I would only use it for hunting. I've shot it before it really doesn't kick too awfully bad but ear plugs are an absolute must

Put a good aftermarket grip on it and it's a pleasure to shoot.

 I have the super redhawk scoped out. I love it. I was lucky years ago. A buddy bought it brand new and traded it to me for my super blackhawk in 44 mag. He didn't like the recoil of the 454. :yike: Hell yeah straight trade.  I payed only $327. 00 brand new for the super blackhawk and hunted with it for many year. I think he paid 700.00 or so. I made out big on that deal. It is not cheap to shoot, but if you reload you save a lot of money. I have taken many deer with my pistol using the 250gr barnes, 300gr gold dot and the 300gr sierra sp. They all work great on big game.

I ended up going to federal way discount guns this evening and picked up a awesome Smith and Wesson 44 mag 629 classic. This thing is a beauty!!! I also picked up a Galco Leather holster for it as well. Now i just cant wait to get out and shoot this beast.

For cheaper shooting you should be able to shoot 45 colt out of the 454.

Dunno about the .454 casull, but the first handgun I ever got to fire was a super redhawk in .44 magnum. I was 8 at the time, and fell in love even though the first time I fired it almost came out of my hands. Is still on my list of expensive dream guns that I want to own some day. When I do finally get one I may end up going 454 instead of 44 though. :

.454 ammo (factory) comes in such a variety that it really is difficult to get a general feel for recoil just off the factory ammo.  With 9mm, 45acp, .223 and some others; it doesn't seem that there is much difference between brands/loads when comparing recoil. (at least I can't tell the difference)  With .454 there was.  I first shot some winchester ammo and was like--'that's it?'.  Not bad at all.  Then shot some Hornady stuff (240 gr) and could feel a difference--still comfortable to shoot, but had serious increase in felt recoil.  Later I got some odd ball brand (300 gr) and I really can't shoot more than one cylinder with out a glove of some sort.  Fingers would get bruised from it.  Now I reload, so it is possible to make a round that doesn't quite redline.

Today i decided to go to sportsmans warehouse to look at some 22 pistols. For awhile now i've been wanting to get something fun and cheap to shoot. Well I took my wife with me so she could have some fun and guess what? YUP!! she ended up finding a pistol that she liked and i bought it for her. We got the Ruger " New model single six". this is a really neat single action revolver.

I picked up the first Ruger Super Redhawk that hit town years ago in .454 Casull. It's a real power house, has way more recoil than full house hand loads through my 500 S&W. With the weight of the 500 and the ported barrel the 500 Smith is a easy shooting handgun, single handed shooting is a breeze with the 500. The Ruger .454 will flat jam you up! I'm going to get a Ruger Alaskan .454 for my next revolver. Going to go the used route so I don't get hit so hard, just waiting for the right deal, I passed one up at a local pawn shop for 575.00 and kick myself for not getting it.

When I first started looking at getting a revolver i knew exactly what I wanted. Ruger Blackhawk in 45 colt. Hand loads i have loaded for it are pretty hot and it handles them with ease. 300 grain XTP at 1300 fps in a 7.5 inch barrel. Packs a hell of a thud for "the old 45"

I have the 44 casull in the Ruger ALaskan.  Love the gun, great for carrying as a sidearm in grizzly country, probably not truly needed around Washington so much, but I did pack it in the Selkirks while I had my moose permit in 2009.  Always pack it when hunting archery back home in Montana.
I didn't say it was your fault, I said I was blaming you.
If I ageed with you, then we'd both be wrong.
