Jeep History? Warn All Range Overdrive Factory logo'd model??

My landowner has an old Jeep out in the barn with the body off the frame. Looks like its been there a long time. I'll grab a picture or two tomorrow. He's not interested in selling it but, I'm sort of interested if anyone's ever seen one. I cannot find any pictures of one on the internet which I find unusual.

I don't know the year but, I'll guess at early 1960's. It has all Warn Factory Emblems on it. The dash has "Equiped with Warn" stickers here and there. I've only been able to find something similar in reference to the Overdrive. On the outside of the body it has what appears to be a factory painted logo which says,

"Warn All Range Overdrive" under each door. There is also a Warn emblem below the (I assume) factory V-6 logo. It has an old Warn winch on the front and warn locking hubs. The winch doesn't look like it has any frame modifications to mount it. The tow bar also looks "fairly" orginal.

I'm just wondering if it might be a special model or, possibly something that Warn did and re-sold on new Jeeps??

I'm guessing it's all after market stuff, I know jeep did come out with a factory warn winch and I think a factory warn overdrive, but I don't think it was a special model.  I'm assuming all the stickers and emblems are after market as well.  But I may be wrong that's only what I've seen.

I'll get a picture tomorrow. It's pretty dirty from sitting forever. The logo'ing under the doors are actually paint. Pretty cool looking. I was thinking maybe Warn modified the Jeep to show off their stuff? The decals say Warn, Kent Wash. on them.

i have a 1964 c-j 5 willys with warn o/d ,pto,koenig winch [ king 658] model sounds like all the decals are after market  . is it a willys?  cj5  or cj-7, cj-3? mine also has warn manual hub's .it remains mostly stock except  engine ,two fuel cells  new seats. i'm always looking for parts currentley need exhuast replacement and looking for a full cage hers some pics

If I remember right, the Warn logo stuff was all a dealer campagne in the 60's.

That would make sense. All the logo's say Kent, Wash on them. Maybe this was something Warn did to highlight their aftermarket products?




I don't know Jeeps at all but, thought the three fuel tank set up was cool.




I just thought that the painted All Range Overdrive logo's seemed pretty unique. Like I mentioned, I searched around and can't find any old stock photos on collector sites that have that- could have just been something someone had done. It's definately painted professionally.

wow thats something definetley some market work there by warn .i never have seen anything like it a true little gem  lot of work to restore but it would be worth it for such a rare find  nice roll bar uniqie. no top ? it would be a shame to let it just sit like that thanks for sharing

I have a 76' levi cj7.....but never heard of a warn special.

Does it have an overdrive on the back of the Spicer 18 transfercase?

I really don't know what I'm looking at. I've searched around and only come up with mentions that the all range overdrive just allowed the jeep to get to highway (suicide) speeds.

Can you tell from the picture of the tranny/transfer case? Almost looks like a belt pulley on the back of the t-case?

It has three shift levers from the tranny. One obviously for shifting, one for 4x4/hi-lo.... the third was the all range overdrive I am assuming?

I believe, being a V6, that is the Dauntless V6 225hp 3.7l by Buick.
I believe that the CJ5 only had that engine installed 1 year and that would be 1965.

In 1961 Warn Industries produced the first Overdrive Transmission for Willys Jeep and IH Scout vehicles.  This unit became the Warn All-Range Overdrive.

I came across that same link when I was searching around on the web. It looks to be the unit described that is on the back of the transmission with the shift level attached to it. Good info on the 1965 possibly being the only year with a V-6. I guess I could probably get the VIN number and go that route too but, wasn't so interested in the year as the model. I cannot find a picture of anything like it. If it was only built one year and is some sort of a special edition it might be worth talking the landlord into selling it!  It's a bit more of a project than I think I'd like to undertake but, everything is there and I've done a frame off with my Dad on my Grandpa's truck and restored a 1971 Camaro with my Dad...(it's sitting at a friend of a friends house in Moses Lake, sold to my cousin a long time ago)

Took it on its' first test drive back to the old stomping grounds..... Dad passed before it was finished..

Ok, the pics didn't show up on my computer at work. That is the stock T-90 transmission behind a odd fire V6. The Spicer 18 transfer case has a Warn overdrive bolted to the rear right in the center. The shift lever coming off of it would go up though the floor. Where the rear drive line hooks up at, it looks like a big pulley, that is the parking brake. Its actually a drum brake on the output shaft of the t-case. The winch is a Warn 5687. The predecessor to the legendary 8274.
