Cat Prices!
« on: February 29, 2012, 03:20:52 PM »
Anyone from here make it over to the auction in Athol? A guy I know brought some cats over and averaged $575.00 per cat. Just curious if anyone else took anything over and what kind of prices they got.

I was going to say if it was a wet side cat that brought that much, our east side cats should bring 1200 :chuckle:

This is probably the first time I've ever heard Athol mentioned outside......Athol... I want to catch some kitties now....I've got a few I've seen every few months around my place. Would love a rug. Don't think I could sell it.

What would a westside cat go for?

I was just reading a thread about westside cat prices at the OTC sales. Nancy Haefer who buys fur seemed to think $90, others were talking $120.
Cat prices are up for sure and I think they are going over a $100 average.
The thing is though it all depends on the cat. Sometimes we do get a good one over here. I have personally heard of a westside cat going for $375 this year. An exceptional cat for sure but localized areas have very good cats.

It has been my observation that if an area has nice color in its cats it tends to be most of the cats in that area.
I think it has to do with the color of the dominate male in the area. He breeds the females and you get better cats as offspring. Crappy color dominate male  you get crappy colored cats.
I've seen areas switch from good to bad and the other way around over a length of time.

I agree with that.  I really do think that plays a really good factor into the cats in the areas.

Yes you did but now I'm talking about is it worth money? Sounds like you think it is. Heck $50 would be better than nothing. Could put some gas in my truck.
