New to deer.. Looking to hunt the west side
«

Hello, Im new to hunting in Washington state. Ive been around guns my whole life, but because my father doesnt hunt and because of my previous work I didnt have time to hunt. I hike and fish a lot so Im not new to the outdoors. I have a son now and I want to pass on hunting on to him when he gets old enough to do so.
I took the hunter safety course and I have the guns.
Im looking for advice, tips, nearby areas to hunt in, and scouting tips before the season starts... If anyone wants a new hunting partner that doesnt know much let me know
I want to hunt around west side of mountains around I90 or Highway 2. Anything advice would be appreciated.
PM or post on here.

C-post is always a good stand by.
However....you can get some good ideas from scoping out google earth, go hunt on the states site..and maybe some quadrangle maps. The quadrangle maps are good for specific regions....just google wa quadrangle and you can get there. Keep in mind the regs change from unit to unit for blacktail in regards to any deer, any buck, and weapons restrictions. Get behind the gates, hike, explore, look for some cuts and check the edges and corners for sign. Blacktails are sneaky little buggers. Also...grap a bear tag. When out scouting for deer you never know when ol blackie will pop out.
Have fun, be safe, and good luck on your hunts.
Oh, yeah...what is the worst thing you end up doing....spending a day hiking/scouting/hunting with your boy? Good enough for me.

To be honest I'm not sure. I just lost track of time i guess.. After last deer season I put all my stuff away and started working on getting fully settled in the new house and started job searching for something better . I'm at Boeing in Everett now 1st shift on the 777 and my house is pretty settled so i'll be frequenting the site on a daily basis again. Its good to be back.

just spend the time and you will find them . I would really sugest working your hunting areas real hard and slow . Blakies are very illusive , kinda like hunting rabbits , they can hold real tight , If your still hunting you may try back tracking . I've had them get nervious and move the second time through a area. good luck .
