Dad just got a deal
« on: March 03, 2012, 08:00:42 PM »
My dad just bought a Remington 700 .222 from a neighbor for $300. Thoughts?
Some animals WERE harmed in the making of this Hunter. They were also dragged through the dirt, butchered and tasted delicious fried with butter and bacon.

If it's a BDL he did good.  If it's an ADL he did ok.

Is there an ebony cap on the forearm?  Picture if you got one.  Could be any number of variations...i.e. mountain, classic, ADL, BDL.  Depending on what it is would determine just how good a deal.  Irregardless....good deal.

Haven't been able to get my hands on it just yet. I asked him if it was ADL/BDL but he wasn't able to tell me in the few minutes we talked.

Just watched a show on Rem 700's.  According to the show, some have a penchant for firing without a finger on the trigger when the safety is taken off.    BTW, I am not a gunsmith or expert on Rems, just passing on info that might be helpful.  They estimated that 1% can fire without pulling the trigger.  That is a lot of guns considering they have produced 5 million or so.  Even the guy who designed it in the early 40's realized there could be issues and designed a fix but Remington ignored him.  I think it was on CNBC.

Loki,  Most ALL the instances of the firearm discharging were after the trigger had been pulled hard.  I have owned and shot Remmys for 35 years and have yet to have a non-user-induced product.

That show was much like the "exploding Chevy" side gas tanks on the 73-88 trucks.

I've got no skin in the game but there were videos of law enforcement personnel dmonstrating the problem and even memos within Remington acknowledging it.  I'll admit it is a long shot that you might have a gun with a problem, but it does seem they are out there.

Remington has a trigger exchange program.  Send in the gun if in doubt and they'll replace the trigger assembly.  You pay shipping I believe.
