I keep it easy and use my crow call.  If for some reason I don't hear anything and I know they are in the area I will howl.  That gets them fired up.
Cut em!

Coyote on the pm roost
Truck door when looking in new areas
Crow in afternoon
Muleysnipers Farts on the morning roost :chuckle:

Oh and occasional racking of shotgun with tom at 25 yards once I realize I forgot to chamber a round. That one is very affective.  :chuckle:
Man I wonder how many of us done that !!! :dunno: :chuckle:The last situation we had was my son did not close the pump the whole way when he loaded it ....He finally figured it out as the bird was gobbling his head off and strutin around the decoy ...Well lets say he did not make it  :chuckle:

I just whistle very loudly most of the time-seems to work, but at times I use a peacock call-don't like it real well as it really sends the whitetails into a frenzy.  Predator call works well, but it really drives the whitetails nuts-not sure that effects the turkeys, but I suspect their wild stampedes don't help.

Before season a peacock call.

During season on private land only - gobbles and hen cuts, yelps, clucks & purrs - maybe peacock.

On public land during season, I mix it up and use a different one every couple of hundred yards going out and coming back ... peacock, crow, owl, coyote, hawk, elk, hat slap, leaf rake, etc.

I use the peacock/woodpecker call the most. However I have better luck with the truck door or smashing a pop can with your foot.

Most people here in ferry county use a crow call or owl call. We found that in the morning birds wouldnt gobble to either of them becuase thee was people parking under the roost tree, nd they also used them so much birdss were use to them we changed to a peacock call because there wasnt a whole lot of people using them and they are loud enough they reach a long ways.

Lord , we've been here on days before
and often times you've let me score
Now do you think that on this day
you could send a gobbler down my way?
And , if not , just let me say--
you've given me another day
to hunt the bird I love the best.
I don't mind sharing with the rest

A coffee can filled with bird seed.  Just shake it.  :chuckle:
:yeah: You beat me to it...old rusty red Folgers can with a cup of scratch in it  :yike:!

Just kidding, I do not have access to a place like that...yet  :chuckle:. We have used the car door, loading a round into the old pump works well, anymore we know where they are pretty much so we let the other gobblers in the area start in and then we know for sure. I must say it worked better a few years back when there was more birds in the area we hunted around Colville. Last couple years they have been fewer and harder to find  :twocents:.

I have used an old duck call. Just blow on it hard and try not to sound like a duck. Yup your friend will look at you funny until the big boy gobbles.

I will share a couple things that help me.

When all else fails, do any of the following once, short and as loud as possible. Blow as hard as you can through any call, short and loud. If you are close to your truck, slam the door or honk your horn. Give them what they haven't heard and give it to them loud, that will sometimes work when nothing else does.

But honestly, you will kill more birds by watching them and learning where they like to feed and their daily routine. Turkeys have rounds that they make every day unless you upset their routine. From the time they wake up until they go back to the roost, they will repeat that routine most of the time unless disturbed, turkeys are very predictable and we kill the dickens out of them all season long because of that weakness. :twocents:

I could not agree more. A guy can hunt them like you would a whitetail. If left alone they travel the same routes and are easy to pattern. They will also often times follow the path of least resistance. You can find pinch points as well. Like where 2 canyons come together.
