First Hawaiian Goat

So I officially have my first Hawaiian goat on the ground & it was my first animal harvested with a bow...I might be addicted to bow hunting now. My wife, my two boys and I got up early on Saturday morning and drove 45 minutes to the hunting area. I had never been to this area before but used some Youtube video's that some locals posted as homework. If you have never been to Hawaii the mountains here are insanely steep and filled with cliffs. We hiked straight up for pretty much an hour until we located our first goats on a far skyline atop a ridgeline; which one was a HUGE Billie. As we were trying to decide if it was even possible to put a stalk on them we heard some goats down below us. They spoted us before we saw them and all eyes were on us. They had a couple nice Billies in the group to include both chocolate and black colored 265 yardds away. There was no way to stalk them as they were straight down and watching us closely. After they went out of sight we saw another goat directly below us at 230 yards. This one had not been alerted by the others and had no idea we were above it. I told my wife and boys to sit still and I was going to see how close I could get to it. There was a little rock outcropping between us so I used it to cover my decent. I figured if I could make it to that location it should have me well within shooting distance. Just before I got down to that rock I ranged the spot where I had last seen the goat at 71 yards. I decided I would go another 30 yards and then try to look for it. I moved another 10 yards and I saw it go over another rock cliff. I hurried to the ledge and looked over and there was nothing. I knew the goat did not know I was there and could not have gone far. That is when I leaned over the cliff and just under the cliff was a bedding area that went in about five feet with a goat nose sticking out; I ranged her at 17 yards. It was bedded by this point and so I decided to throw a few rocks to get her up and out of her bed. After a few she stood up, I pulled back on the bow and let the arrow fall. I hit a little high but caught the top of the lungs and she only went 40 yards.  I made her into a backpack and started down the mountain. As we were heading down we happened to look atop the ridge directly above us and there was another big Billie looking down at us. As we continued to walk down the mountain we jumped 3 goats at 4 yards. I know they heard us coming but must have thought we were an actual goat as I'm sure they smelled the one on my back. They looked quite shocked when I came around the corner and I wasn't what they smelled. We saw about 50 goats that morning and trust me I plan on going back to get more. It is archery season until July 31st in which you can shoot one goat a day. It then opens up for rifle season from August 1st through October 31st in which you can shoot one a day on the weekends & state holidays. This was probably the best hunt I have ever been on as it was with my wife and my first hunt ever with my boys there. I am so glad that I finally have these goats figured out on Oahu. Now we have our Axis Deer hunt in April. I am going to try and post some pictures but for some reason I have not been able to post them on previous attempts. Enjoy!!!

Other than the fact that your goats looks very similar to one of ours in the yard    Nice goat! Good memories for the entire family for sure. Now you need to get your boys shooting.
