So here's the only photo I have of mine that got stolen.  7'2" nose to tail.  1982 Ontario, CA  That's a 6' orange level next to it.

Good sized cat, was it a east side cat or a different state cat?

He was a hog, by measuring his girth and using a pig formula that our guide/friend had a lot of success with, we calculated that he weighed 450.  This was also a spring bear.  Imagine the weight if it was fall.  Took five of us all we could do to drag him (on a tarp) to the truck and get him in it!  His skull was just short for the books though, shot at five yards with the 30-06.

Lots of nice bears on you guys' walls.

That is really cool! I only have a half life size mount right now. It was my first bear and turned out good. He was just a small guy at like 130-140 but we called him in and he was my first bear. Michelle has my dandy spring bear. I did not want more taxi bills. My friend that helped me get him out laughed at me. I grabbed him 3 or 4 times to just take his head. I just could not do it. I HAVE NEVER! seen a coat like on my spring bear this last year. It is so beatiful an long! SO I bit the bullet and she is doing a rug for me. I probably won't kill one bigger and he made all time sci books.

Congrats on your bear Carp, look forward to seeing the pics.  My first rug got eaten by bugs in someone's garage who had borrowed it from my ex for their wall, and they never put it up.   :bash:

Still have the skull from the big guy though.

It really suprises me with some bears. By the body weight you think they would have a huge Mellon on them! Then they just turn out to be small. Then small bears turn out to have a big Mellon on them! The first bear I shot was like only 130-140lbs live weight, but he had a heck of a good Mellon on him for only being 3 years old! There is no doubt in my mind he would have hit the 19" mark when he was good and mature.
