Porcupine Tree Damage and Beaver Marsh

Went out in the pouring down rain to try and call in a bobcat.  No luck but on the way out I noticed some peeled trees.  Funny because we were just talking about this in carpsniperg2's post about his porcupines.

I sure like hunting down in the SW portion of the state... Your old clear cuts are SOOOO clean... All the limbs are left on the ground up here so there is NO way to walk though them...

Oh they leave the limbs down here also.  This was just a little swampy area where the grass is covering all the branches.  Thats why I was having so much trouble walking through there.

Yep and chances are that tree might not make it as well. I planted a whole mess of tree's out of my own pocket for bird and wildlife cover. Paying between 8-15.00 each. Thousands of dollars Worth of tree's over the last number of years. I had one big *censored* move it and it took me awhile to notice a tree with the damage. Since he was staying in a area I don't go into much. I saw it and knew right where he was going to be at. Went back and got the shotgun! I was so pissed I just grabbed my yote gun with a extra full choke and oo buck. Had no intrest in collecting guard hair that day Lets just say at about 10ft with oobuck and a extra full choke the whole was pretty impressive

They are tuff sobs and soak up a lot of lead. You really got to hit them in the head with the smaller cals to shut them down. The ones I shot the other day was a lot farther then I like shooting them with a 22. Off hand trying to hit about a golf ball sized target on the run at 80-125 yards is not very easy

Mighty fine example as to why hunters hunt and MANAGE all critters edible or not

Actually porcupine is good to eat!  A little greasy though.
Eat what you kill right?

Oh, and a gal who I consider to be my daughter killed one with a 5 gallon bucket Wish I could have seen it

they die fairly easy unless you shoot them... lol. i killed a couple with my 7 mag and always took at least 2 shots center mass. but a sturdy stick and clocking them in the noggin is pretty easy and it doesnt take all that hard of a hit. they arent verty fast creatures either.

They are plenty fast when they are getting shot at trust me If you have a rest that always helps. all the ones I seem to find make a mad dash for colverts or 6' tall grass. You have to get them quick
