Pitch on vehicles
« on: March 10, 2012, 03:48:12 PM »
Took advantage of the nice weather and gave the truck and car a good hand washing.  But, I found a lot of pitch on the truck that won't come off. What is the best way to get rid of this stuff?

I've use lighter fluid before.  There were other things like acetone and turpentine that also seemed to work, but I think they were more apt to damage paint.

Clay bar. Do a Google search on it. That's the only thing I've found that works. That stuff works great. Takes everything off your paint that's not supposed to be there.

Mineral spirits or WD-40 if it's pine-type pitch.  if it's leaf tree sap, just plain water to start.  Soap sets it on, so don't use soapy water to try to wash it off.
If it was easy, everybody would be doing it.

When Bernie Madoff did it, it's called a "Ponzi Scheme"
When Government does it, it's called "Social Security"

X2 on the WD-40. Spray it, let it soak in, work it off

Thanks for the tips, WD-40 seems to work with a little elbow grease. Wouldn't you know it, washed the rigs and now it is starting to rain.

Clay bars do excellent job.
