Most popular West Side Elk Units...
« on: July 28, 2008, 12:29:17 PM »
In your opinion, what is the most popular (by popular I mean most hunters, road hunters, mountain bike hunters, etc.) west side elk units for early archery general season?

I have mainly hunted elk in eastern wa, but decided to give the west side a try with archery gear.  Not afraid to hike/bike to get away from the masses.  Just curious what units get the most pressure.

Thanks.

i know 615 gets pounded pretty hard. but during archery, even if its crowded,, it still isnt anything like during modern gun.

the mossyrock gets pounded pretty hard too, don't know why, there isn't very many elk in the unit. maybe because parts of it are just across the road from the winston  :dunno:

I think a lot of the Winston hunters are late season people, as well as Ryderwood.  Lewis River is such a huge unit that it can support higher pressure.  Don't forget about Willipa Hills either.

What is the Winston unit like? I normally always hunt eastside unit and maily during the late season, but was invited by couple of guys that are bowhunters to hunt with them in the Winston unit. I'm suppose to go down next weekend to check it out. Just curious. Thanks for the information.

Would this be a better unit during early and late seasons vs a late hunt such as Teanaway or Cowiche?
