Machias -  What area do you bear hunt in?

North of Burney, east of Mt Shasta.

That's cool.  I'm looking at hunting a little west of there this year (Trinity National Forest).  I'm going to try to hit some of the backcountry for deer/bear.

CA is another state that gives disabled Vets a discount.  I can buy my non-resident hunting lic there for $6.  The tags are all still at non-resident prices but the discount on the hunting lic is really nice.
Let me know if you need a yellow dog (and owner! :))along for that trip.  I have been threatening to o to Cali to try a run.  We'll be going pretty hard in ID this may- Casey and I go
t out together and we're making plans to chase some more.

Oregon- over-the-counter archery elk -drop camp hunt near Eagle Cap Wilderness

New Mex.- Bought a few lottery tickets for the Valles Caldera national Preserve (archery & Muzzleloader).  only one non-res tag available for each hunt, but was lucky enough to be drawn in 2007.  BEST ELK country anywhere in the US, and you get 3000 to 6000 acres all to yourself!

AZ - archery elk points

Didn't apply to Utah or WY this year for points, but have a few that will roll-over

Consider yourself invited.  I don't buy a harvest tag so I usually just go and tag along with the older gentleman, he trees about 45 to 60 bears a year and is a super nice guy.  You may have to listen to quite a bit of talk about how great Leopard Curs are.  :)  Please keep me in mind when you and Casey are hooking up, I would love to tag along!!

Maybe Texas for management buck and two does plus all the hoggs I want with Ted Nugent for his birthday in December.  This is the 3rd time I've been invited but haven't had the$$$.  He said it will cost an arm and leg to ship back all that meat.

Mostly buying points for myself again this year rather than apply for trophy hunts. I have 12 elk points in Utah now, so I am getting close to a good tag. Going to hold out for one of the best units.

Will probably get 1 or 2 cow elk tags in Utah and 1 or 2 doe tags in Montana for good meat hunts. I like to put a lot of wild meat in the freezer.

Hopefully a few hunters pull good tags. I get just as much delight out of watching my hunters shoot big bucks/bulls.
I am exactly the same way.  I was a guide down in South Carolina.  I loved watching people that came down to hunt and to be a part of there hunt.  It's nice to know you are the reason they are successful.  It's pretty gratifying.  Still to this day I work really hard for friends and family to get them there animal before I harvest mine.  Some people call me crazy but there are enough animals out there for all of us.

Didn't get drawn for Alaska mountain goat, might go with a general tag this fall.  May take my bow to Hawaii in a couple weeks to chase some feral goats, hogs and axis deer, I'm a shoe in for South Dakota mule deer if I can swing the time.  I might free some up by not hunting this state.

I'm in on the Wyoming moose draw and if not successful, I'll be putting in for the draws for Idaho deer.  Some of these out of state hunts take a heck of alot of points to draw and rack up some big cumulative fees over the years.  It took me 12 years to draw the Utah San Juan/Elk Ridge deer tag a few years ago and I have 11 years into Wyoming moose draws.  You gotta pay to play and have alot of patience.

Montana Deer (put in for the combo with hard to draw elk permit options so probably wont draw elk and will return the elk tag and hunt deer)
Montana antelope probably put in for a difficult to draw rifle tag and see what happens
Wyoming points only for deer, elk, antelope
Colorado points only for deer
