Whitewater Enthusiast
« on: March 15, 2012, 10:58:26 AM »
So anyone here into kayaking, rafting or catarafting?  I am going to the Lochsa River Madness Memorial weekend.  Anyone else going to this or any other similar events?  I am hoping to be able to afford a new cataraft soon!

Love the carnage!!

That sounds fun! Did lots of rafting in Ak. Did some intense rafting on the clearwater in may. My achilles is a beast! but we did almost flip it, could have been bad! Where is that event happening at?

Have fun. Yet to ride that bad boy yet, but watched lots of people go down in from the bridges that span the river. CRAZY!!!

It's along Highway 12 over near Kamiah, ID on the Lochsa River.

I did this:
http://www.denaliraft.com/

was fun, like rafting down a river of concrete

Also rafter the clearwater, and did that a lot in a jet boat too.  fished for sturgeon and cats.

now pretty much my rafting is in a single person pontoon with a fishing pole

Also I think the jet boat I was in was/is the only jet boat to succesfully navigate the gorge in the kettle river just north of barstow store and not punch a hole in the boat.  I got a nice wall pic of that.  Wish I'd had been the driver, I wanted too  :chuckle:

I worked for Hewes Craft at the time and they presented me with a nice framed photo for being a part of it.  Coming back down river was worse than going up, involved some tricky full throttle reverse, redirect then punch forward to miss that mid current rock.

Always wanted to raft Hells Canyon Oregon, steapest gorge in the world.  Bet that would be a good time.  Only time I've been rafting is in Sun River.
When you see the third, thin the herd.
Right now I'm somewhere picking up sheds.

I have run the saw on my aire jaguraundi and lion 16. The lion is a pig for that big of water. The jag is killer for two at big water levels on the saw or Clark fork....etc. If you don't have a lot of experience with cats, the lochsa is NOT the place to learn.....its a seriously pissed river during runoff. Always stop in at 3 rivers and get the scouting report even before doing your own. Nw whitewater assn has meetings every month and someone in the group will be running the river around memorial day.

If you want a deal on a bailer, look on ebay for a baltik boat. I bought one of their 12 foot bailers and it was a very solid boat for the dough.

That looks like fun on the Lochsa. Will check it out this year, Obviously go with a guide

Always wanted to do the middle fork of the Salmon River

This is the extent of my rafting experience.  :chuckle:

Fortunately, I was in the back and stayed in through all this. The two you can see were in front and fell out.
